A few years back while looking for a youth 20ga for my daughter, I found that Walmart carried a couple nice options. Can't remember exactly what brands they were but they were nice looking starter shotguns and were priced well to boot...Might check there.

Would a 16 gauge Savage 311 SxS work? They'd have to pick it up but I'd make the price pretty fair for a kid.

I went through this last year. The old Stevens was nice (in 20) but too heavy and long for the kiddo (I have a large 12 year old).
I picked him up a Mossberg Bantam 500 pump. It fits him properly and he loves it. He also hits more targets with the gun that fits correctly.
Bummer that the gun companies charge more for the youth models than the adult models though...
