8 weeks for Recruit Training, 8 weeks at the Naval Warefare Prep school, 3 weeks BUD/S Orientation, 7 weeks for Phase 1, 7 Weeks for Phase 2, 7 weeks for Phase 3, 26 weeks for SQT. Once a Sailor completes SQT they are then awarded thier Tridents and assigned to a SEAL team. Of course all times are approx since Sailors often get rolled back but it would be easy for someone who joined the Navy at 18 to complete the training prior to thier 22d birthday.

When I say "Easy" I mean the time line/frame not the training.

Which Phase is "don't point a fuckin gun at your head and pull the fuckin trigger"...Phase?

I've got a pic of me off the road in my 5 day old Jeep which just went down the road on its top and them flipped end over out in the Dickey area. Some stupid fukn drunk (me) at the wheel, drunk and elk hunting. Don't discount the booze aspect of good sense.
That was 25 years ago.....a little more, more like thirty.....since I've been sober almost 25 years now.
Both the Jeep and I survived my drinking.......but not by much.

There are some purdy craze utube vids out there. The guy that shoots himself in front of his class is another amazing one. The list is endless. A friend of mine was right by the guy at the kingdome that was fondling his sidearm in his pocket and shot himself. That was quite a while back, but I'm sure some of you remember that.

It is apparent, by the incident given, that Seal training is concentrated
on the physical not the mental characteristics of their candidates.
It is truly amazing how many people are killed or injured by unloaded
guns.

While this incident was stupid, anyone who has known or worked with SEALs would know that they are usually mentally strong as they are physically if not more.

Why is it being called accidental? Anybody that puts a gun to their own head and pulls the trigger is doing it on purpose.

The "SEAL angle" is no angle at all, to my mind...he's a dumbass who shot himself by being stupid, no matter what his training or education or age or whatever is...anyone who ever picks up a gun ever should know not to do that.

No accident; he deliberately shot himself. A bit Darwinian tho, and possibly before he has a chance to reproduce.

A case of the little head doing the thinking and the big head ends up with the results. Actually, this pretty much fits a lot of accidental shootings. Drinking affects judgement; so lets breakout the gun and show off; then boom. It's an accidental shooting because he didn't intend to shoot himself, mistakinly believing he gun wasn't loaded otherwise it's a suicide attempt.

All kidding aside, a tragedy none the less. I hope he recovers.
