Hi Kid Good shoot'n. Treat that teal as if its all you got. The goose is another story. It may taste a little less good to you. If you or the family member who does most of the cooking don't want to cook it all at once you might try this: Stir fry like chinese with a lot of sauce of some kind. Another way that it isn't as bad as it can be is to wrap stips of the "steak" around some canned halopeno pepper then wrap a big strip of bacon around that and run a toothpick through this round ball. Cook on the BBQ until the bacon is done. It isn't bad at all. The halopeno changes the taste of all waterfowl. In the case of goose it changes from "shoe leather liver" to pretty good table fare. Again, good shoot'n and congrates. P.S. The thinner the strips the better. If you fix the next duck this way you will love it as its almost like eating beef.

The teal and goose are both in a marinade right now... tomorrow i will probably cook up a bunch of goose strips with bacon (that bacon grease is a real plus), and that teal... he can be my appetizer I love my teal, but they fly so fast!! It was really horrible... Four widgeons go over, miss two shots. A mallard goes over, miss it. A teal comes zooming past, i lay the bead on it as its about 50 feet away, NAILED IT. The goose we had to stalk for about an hour, then we finally tethered the boat about twenty feet away. He got up and got about twenty feet before he fell dead into the water. This is actually my first goose ever.... He'll taste good no matter the recipe. Thanks for your recipe though, I think I'll have to try that out sometime.

i love making stir fry with duck and goose.
DU actually did a study that found that the fastest flyers are canada geese at 60 mph +. mallards at 40mph+ and teal at 25 to 30. they noticed that the bigger it is the faster it goes. the teal are very acrobatic tho.

Hey BBVD, Congrats on your goose. Where did you do your hunting? We did pretty good on opening weekend too. Four geese and four ducks on Moses Lake and the potholes. We would have done a he!! of a lot better if not for some idiots nearby us. We must have called in 6 to 8 large flocks of ducks and geese, and when they were circling our spread of dekes, they would pass over these guys who were 400 to 500 yards away from us on an island. These SOB's were taking passing shots that must have been 60 to 80 yards out! I can't count how many shots they took, and only one bird fell! I hate to think how many poor birds flew off with a few pellets in them. Guys like this can ruin it for everyone. And our calling and decoys are the only reason these guys got a shot anyways. Anyhow, enough *****ing. Congrats on your birds! Drop me an e-mail if you want to talk hunting. I have not done much waterfowl hunting on this side of the hills. We usually head to Eastern Washington. Good Hunting, Joe

We were on Kapowsin... If we didnt have more plans for the day, we would have stayed there for longer.
I know what you mean about idiots. We ran into some guys with at least a dozen goose mags out, tons of mallard (i think they were all mallard) mags, along with some of those ones you poke into the ground and they imitate a flying one. These guys, at 12, hadnt shot a thing. They said they just werent flying... hmmm... i had heard dozens of shots over here. We head off, and within 5 minutes, 6 widgeons go over us. we start calling, and they circle RIGHT OVER the guys spread. Perfect shots. Not a shot is taken. We set these guys up probably four times with the same flock before my brother got sick of it. He took some shots and missed, but I was disgusted with the other hunters.
All that money for nothing, huh?
I do plan to get out to Kapowsin this weekend if possible. With deer starting, less hunters should be here, and we have a spot all picked out.
Good luck to ya. If you are ever at Kapowsin, say hello. We are in the only boat not camoflauged... Except for a few yards of mesh hung over it. But mostly a silver boat. Just two teens, out havin a good time.
If you plan on goin out, drop a line in my email or on the board. we could hook up boats and learn a few things from you.

Sorry bro, boats full.
Ericson's launches boats though, and they work great. In Kapowsin, start on either of the long ends of the lake. As the day progresses, start moving towards the other end.
What usually happens is someone will be at either of the long ends. They will continually shoot the ducks back and forth to each other, and usually its an idiot who misses all his shots. If you start out on one of the logs in the middle strait out from the dock, you are in good shape because you can pass shoot the ducks before they hit that end.
As the day progresses, move up and down the lake and explore all the coves. We limited today, with only 6 of the 14 brought in in the morning. The rest were from jump shooting different spots up and down the lake.
For fishing, red wedding rings and worms are AWESOME! I guess those really smaaaall rapalas and a piece of worm works to. We reeled in many trout, released most. We usually trolled to our next hunting spot so we could see if we were missing any fowl along the way.
Good luck
Curtis
