Good thing I had a jet not a prop. They were SPANKIN the kings and cohos. Several guys offered to sell me fish on the water for three dollars a pound. Wonder if the the creel census would cover those fish?

Is it legal for me to buy those fish they are trying to sell? I mean direct from them on the water? Or on the street for that matter.

Yes, of course it is...but they are supposed to report them on their fish tickets.

Gregsalmon,
Yes, it is legal to buy them, but make sure you get a receipt from the tribal fisherman. We might not like it, but they sell them all the time with no interference from WDFW.
Many years I buy hatchery coho from a Squaxin fisherman, put up the eggs, smoke or freeze the coho. Then I can release wild fish without temptation - whether or not I'm required to.
However, many times tribal fishermendo not take good care of their catch. Buyer beware.

At least you are consistent. i said no for a reason, and honestly it didnt have anything to do with legality... but i highly doubt that they carry a cash register on their boats... yes, you can buy from tribal fisherman, if you have a signed reciept, with tribe affiliation, address, phone number, date caught, amount of fish bought, ect ect ect, its right in the regs... BUT why would you want to help out the netters? if you buy fish from tribal netters than you cannot complain about them netting off the entire river killing off fish runs, because you are supporting them by purchasing their fish... that includes buying eggs from them... my "no" answer, was a moral answer... dont buy net caught fish...

Oh, now I understand. You just answered a question that wasn't asked.
Stay strong. no, i was being a smart a$$ (insert second part of first signature line here)... you have seen the pictures, and you have seen in in person, why support it? why even ask the question if its legal or not? generally a question like that would be considered thinking about buying them, which in the end is supporting the netters... if greg is just asking if its legal to do so, then yes, it is legal to do so greg, its in the beginning of the regs i think in the green section... personally i wouldnt do it tho, but no one listens to me anyways so it is what it is... carry on...

I understand the difference between morality and legality. When I want to know about morality I will ask a question regarding morality.
These particular fishers were not anxious to provide documentation. I would not buy from them anyway, was just wondering if it was legal for them to market thier own fish. I really cannot believe anybody would eat a fish caught in the Duwamish. The fish get hung up in the nets, are not bled and soak in the river stew for awhile.

yes its fully legal, and i dont think there is really anything the WDFW could do about it regardless... you on the other hand, different story, especially if you dont have documentation...
the Mucks are a different breed for sure, ive fished around them for years, and usually its not much fun to be around it... the Puyallups are almost as bad, just not quite there yet.. the Nisqually on the other hand, dont seem to be as bad, but i havent been around them as much, but from what ive seen, they are far more professional, and curtious...
the Puyallup tribe sells their fish on the side of the road, there are also signs up here on South Hill that are 3-5 miles from the river, i have seen piles of Pinks on Canyon Road 5+ miles from the river, and by piles, i mean hundreds if not thousands of pounds of fish... ive watched both the Puyallup and Muckleshoot tribes pull nets, and throw several (30-50+ in some cases) dead fish back, and keep the 6 that were alive...
the nets gotta stop, especially the clusterphuck on the Duwamish...
and thanks Phil, i appreciate that...

Those are great photos. I do not understand the logic of putting nets across the whole river for miles. Could they thing about the future runs at all? These fish are NOT quality fish, you can see by the way they are handled.
There is NO WAY all the fish sold are going on fish tickets. You can see fish sales on the water and going on in the parking lot. I do not think WDFW would be kind to me if they caught me with fish bought from these guys.
I wonder if those who claim it is not proper to anchor in a trolling lane consider it proper to block the whole river with a gill net. I believe the Duwamish is a navigable river, is it not? Even with me jet I had to coast over the corklines in a few spots. The net guys were telling me I could not go up the river cause they were netting. Do they regulate the waterway AND the fishery?

this is not my photo, its of another members on another site... THIS shows the TRUE showing of what they do (not that the other photos are false by any means)... THIS is what they think of future fish runs.... do the math... and heres what you cant see in the photo, zoomed in a little...
