F'N Refs blew another clean hit.
I bet V.D is still seeing stars.

Another [Bleeeeep!] penalty, repeated multiple times today in other games. Some people may call it senseless, but I'll call it it a great hit. Legal all the way and no flag should have been thrown.

It must be. It will be interesting to see if he gets fined. You make a legal hit and draw a penalty and a possible fine, I'd say that would be frustrating to say the least. The NFL has killed the big hit.

Lame call.
Just like the one against Goldson last week.

If chancellor doesn't make the hit Davis catches the ball at the 1 or 2 yard line. The penalty was only half the distance to the goal line. Penalty was a net positive for the Hawks as it was only 14-0 at the time.
I'm going to take a different tack. Davis left the game with a concussion and if you look at the replay you will note that he did not get a concussion from hitting his head on the field. The game has changed and will continue to change. Players risking their lives (long-term) for our entertainment reminds me a lot of the Christians vs. the Lions. Wrong then, wrong now.

It was a nice pick play by SF so the safety had to come on strong and was just trying to jar the ball loose. Kaepernick could have put a little more zip on the ball instead of a weak toss setting up his receiver for the big hit.

Kaepernick floated quite a few passes last night. As wet as it was,I wonder if it was keeping him from really launching the ball.

Tom, in the spirit of the season, all I will say is that my thought has evolved over time, maybe yours will as well.

It sucks.
Goldson's crown got Hernadez on the chin, that is why he got penalized and fined.

Lets see you take a hit like that Chuck! Or get right in Kam's face and call him a pussy. Its the legal fallout of getting hurt on the job that drives these rules.

BTW, headshots aren't required for a concussion which is your brain slapping against your skull. For some that's like a ping pong ball hitting a paddle. For a Coug a marble.
I miss the days when QB's had to be tough. Also tired of D's now being hesitant to hit a QB even when he takes off running, fakes going OB and sidelines for more yards. He should get blasted as a deterrent.

It's the owners who want to protect their investments.
Dont you protect your investments? From earlier discussions with you; I know you dont or wont.
Kam and Vernon are not pussies. Overpaid? Perhaps, but I dont think so. I remember back in Mike Tysons hayday there were questions flying around like how much money would it take for you to go one round with him. Well how much money will it take to play a whole season worth of games with guys like Kam flying around. Kam is probably the most feared safety on any Sunday because he is the size of some D-ends, fast, and smart. I sure as hell would want some serious cash to face him. The players know the risks and they should be compensated for getting lit up like that (penalty or not). The NFL/owners/fans/advertisers give serious consideration to the money they take in and the money they spend. Guys with concussions and other injuries cant play. Injured star players lessons the quality of play, makes games lop sided, potentially makes less money because it seems less competitive for the viewer. Injured players have high medical costs. NFL wants longer season, higher scoring, less injury, make more money.

Brace yourself eddie. I can agree with your Christian/Lions comment. It never made sense to me and no entertainment to watch 2 people attempt to inflict a concussion on each other. Boxing, Martial arts, and now football and some instances in basketball too. Gratuitous violence. And you wonder at the psychos will to kill.

Haven't drank at all but I can see you have no medical knowledge. Chancillor never made contact with Davis's head. You can get a concussion without actually getting hit in the head. The whiplash effect causes the brain to impact the skull.

Not sure it must be to early because I dont see any impact with shoulder pad & head in your second gif but I could be wrong. Either way I feel it was a clean hit but I agree with you that if Davis would have had both feet on the ground it would be a non-issue. I don't always agree with the refs but I would imagine it is hard to make a split second judgement call at full speed. How does the Manningham injury affect you guys? I would guess it will hurt the 9'rs ability to spread the field some but Crabtree is having a good year and they are involving Moss more (at least putting him on the field) so he can still stretch the defense.

After watching that hit over and over again, I've come to the conclusion that it was a shoulder hit directly on the football. As the football became decompressed, the force pushed VD rearwards with enough additional force that his helmet came forward into Chancler's.
Ruling........clean hit, Dooooood!!

There's a chance Davis won't play in the Cards game either, so Walker will be called on to block more. Celek came into the game after Davis went out and had a couple of good catches.
With Manningham out it's next man up so it's about time to see whether #1 pick A.J.Jenkins can step up. His knock has been he doesn't have the upper body strength to separate from DBs at the line. He has good hands and decent speed though. The Niners have Chad Hall and Ricardo Lockette on the practice squad and they could even work out some veterans this week.
Sorry Hank I think in your age your vision is going. There is space between Davis' chin and Chancillor during that entire video.

Actually Hank you are correct, I couldn't see it in your video but found a still shot on the internet where it looks like the bottom of Davis' facemask is contacting the top of Chancillor's shoulder. There was another still photo that showed the contact was directly to the top of Davis' number initially.

Keep your head on a swivel....football 101 starting with Pop Warner.
I was watching another game this weekend. LB is chasing the QB. He is a few yards away and closing. O lineman peels back and decleats him. Flag...... How the hell is a LB chasing a QB a defenseless player? They are killing the game with these ridiculous calls.

Why is it up to the defense to protect the "defenseless" player on offense?
If you didn't catch the ball, and defended yourself instead, you wouldn't have gotten the f.uck knocked out of you.
Like stam said, there are consequences for you concentrating only on catching the ball. Why should the defender have to babysit you?
They'll ruin a couple playoff games with this bullsh!t, and people are going to lose their minds.

Kickers? Sure.
I'm on the fence with QB's.

After Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor was penalized 15 yards for the hit that knocked 49ers tight end Vernon Davis out of last week's game with a concussion, replays appeared to show the collision wasn't actually helmet-to-helmet on a defenseless receiver. Instead, it seemed like it was a clean play with a shoulder-to-chest hit.
So, a report from PFT saying Chancellor was not fined by the NFL this week for the hit seems completely reasonable.
In the end, the penalty didn't matter to the Seahawks, who blocked a 49ers field goal at the end of that drive and ended up with a 42-13 win.
Meanwhile, Davis is questionable to play this weekend vs. the Cardinals.

You have to protect QB's (when not running) There's only a handful of starting QB's on the planet, nobody want's to watch 2nd and 3rd string QB's playing this game, atleast I don't. ymmv

Last time I checked QBs have a helmet, pads and large contracts. They should be fair game like everyone else.

Is it legal to grab a handful of dreads and swing them to the ground?

I can't stand looking at dudes that have earrings, it instantly screams metrosexual girly boy! Earrings are for women!!!

I haven't watched football since high school, which has been more than just a few years. Seems like back then a guy used to get a pat on the back for laying down a hit like the one detailed above though. I thought that was kind of the goal?

It used to be legal to tackle someone by grabbing their hair. The way the NFL is now, it would likely draw a flag and a big fine. Might considered a horse collar tackle as well.

I have an idea...why not build airbags into the helmets? Have sensors that will deploy an airbag around the players helmet at certain impact levels. It would cut down or eliminate concussions on the players....who's in on the IPO ?

it wont cut down anything... as said before, you do not need head contact with anything to get a concussion... if you are moving 5 mph and get hit right in the stomach and stopped, your brain inside your your skull will still be moving at that momentum, then when your head stops moving forward, your brain smacks the inside of your skull, causing a concussion...
blatent helmet to helmet sh!t is bad, but you cant take everything out of tackling... things ARE going to happen, regardless of what you do to try to stop it...

Just drill holes in the sides of their heads (use those ear ring holes for a template) and mount cans of whipped cream that expel their contents directly into the "defenseless" player's skull upon a "vicious" impact. No space in head = no brain bouncing around in there.
Recharge each player's helmet as necessary (or desired).
Added benefit.....
When a team loses......you could say.....
......wait for it.....
THEY GOT WHIPPED!!!
edit: I just had to add........
