Does anyone on here known where I can purchase Coon Shrimp/Prawns???????
As many of you know.....I use the 51-60 prawns that are sold in Safeway or Top Foods for steelhead bait.....but I would like to "try" coon shrimp/prawns for steelhead.
I've done the search bit but nothing comes up for where to buy them fresh. I've checked in Westport, Brady's, all the local seafood places, close to Aberdeen but nothing
Any help would be appreicated.....

Shrimp for bait? To catch trout? Blasphemy!

Very few boats will be able to keep crustacions live for any length of time. Frozen prawns, and coons cure up better in my experience. Always start with frozen, or as close to frozen as you can manage after breaking up the coon bricks. Curing frozen vs. fresh... I doubt you'll notice a difference. The fish will once your fresh cured prawns rot after a week or so, but not if they've been cooked before hand. Try em frozen first. Easier to acquire, and highly effective at luring steelhead.
Crowes, D&G, and BC Angling Post have them frozen... Not sure about places up north, but crowes, and D&G ship. The good ol F/V Acadienne Gale 2 did some great processing this year! Too bad the springer season is a bit under par, because the prawns, and coons are stellar! Best prawns I've seen, perhaps ever!

Thanks.........I'm getting some clues......It's not that I don't have plenty of ways to try and catch summer run......but want to experiment this summer.....coon shrimp would add another particular method.

You can also buy Loonie Coonies at Bob's in Longview if they can keep them in stock. They go pretty fast. Ollie Damon's has them too but with a two jar limit.
