whats wrong with Kohlers Slab? they make a fine motor...
id look at 3 brands mainly, Scagg, Ariens, and Toro... Scagg makes one with a CAT diesel, and they make damn fine equipment... Ariens is awesome as well, and Toro, i dont need to say anything, they speak for themselves...

I have two Toro Zero Turns.....both with busted cases due to mis-torqued case halves. One I repaired and am using, the other is a parts machine now....was the neighbors, but he blew it up when it ran out of oil without him noticing in time. A search shows a number of folks had the same problem.......it was a factory fk up, but they convinced me since they haven't chased down any owners to correct the error. I'm done with them.

i can understand...
check out Scagg, like i said you can get the CAT diesel, might interest you if you have a diesel truck to save on buying different fuels, a Vanguard (Briggs) and a Kawi but its on the 72 incher, the rest are Kohler motors on the smaller decks...
look for a used one too first maybe, they aint cheap, but they are basically the CAT of mowers...

Here's a little follow-up. Went lookin' today........it seems 22 LR's and Zero Turn mowers have much in common. I found none to look at......none. WTF? There were about 6 the other day (all 42" cuts...too small) at the Sequim Home Depot when I looked, none anywhere else in Sequim. Today we went to Silverdale for dinner and to snoop out what is/was available......the results were a shock.....checked Lowes, Home Depot, WalMart......all blank. Strange.

Slab, first things first, how much do you have to spend on one of these... you know they can get to above 10 grand correct? another question, why a zero turn? no Deere lawn tractors?

made me chuckle, Nate.
no to lawn tractors. If you have ever used a zero turn, you'll understand....way faster.....no shifting, no cranking on a wheel back and forth.....amazing how much effort I used to put into mowing using tractors......no more of that
As far as coin goes.....I know the whole game, and while I would like one of the true industrial grade machines, I'm not willing to spend 10 grand on one.....about half that is OK and there are a number of mid-range machines that will do what I want without breaking the bank.
I have a full size tractor and six foot brush hog for the wicked stuff, so a step down will do just fine.

yeah im versed in em Slab, quite well too..
Scag is kinda out of the question then at your price range, UNLESS you can find a dealer that sells used refurb equipment.... find a dealer in Tacoma or something and call them, they may even work you a deal on a new one,the Ariens Pro Zoom is another option, they sell them at Home Depot (where you can find them), and have a Kawi engine... but you are buying products that Home Depot sells so be aware as you know... Ariens makes good stuff, but so do alot of other companies, and HD sometimes gets the cheaper "consumer" grade ones that arent like ones that might even only cost 700 bucks more...
in your price range, id take a real close look at Bobcats... you will need to go to a lawn and tractor store tho... but they are up there with Scag quality wise as well, just not as expensive....
