is a joke. So, yesterday they announced that today (Christmas) at 5 pm there will be a Stage 1 burn ban in King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties due to air stagnation and unhealthy pollution levels. I checked the current air quality and every city listed on their profile in King county is in the "good" range, but yet they are forecasting worse for today. So, their forecasting is off? I live in Fall City and nearby North Bend has an AQI Air Quality Index of 19 (0-50) is good. But I can't have a fire. I can understand if the levels are at bad levels, but the organization pulls the plug when the levels aren't bad or pulls the plug on all of King County when eastern King County is always good. Thanks Puget Sound Clean Air Agency for ruining some families Christmas evenings when they would like to have a fire, make some smores, and enjoy the outdoors. I wonder what the agency does all year long? Just sit around and wait for a chance to pull the plug when it's not applicable?

I bet the Code Enforcement guy would love to justify his job at $1000 a pop. It is about the revenue- might not be yet since we are still in a conditioning phase, but it will come to be eventually.

I ran up the Mt. Si trail this AM and you can see the smoke sitting at the inversion height of about 1000 feet. It is brownish and the fog is white . If you saw it you would see why they have burn ban that and the having too much fun tax. They have to limit particulates to meet federal guidelines so they always err on the side of caution. If you want smog move to China. It's also interesting to see who thinks it's ok to break the rules because no one is looking.

15 years ago, the air pollution cops sent me a warning letter for an illegal fire. Only problem was, I wasn't home for a day before and two days after the time when they said the fire was burning. I lived at the end of a long driveway and the folks to the south of me had a fire going all the time so their smoke drifted through the trees near my house.
I called the air pollution folks and got a response that this was just a warning and they wouldn't fine me until the next time I misbehaved. Sure enough, neighbors burned during a burn ban while I was at work and I got a ticket in the mail. I would never pay them a fine and a letter from my attorney settled the matter though it cost more than any fine. Basically, they were too lazy to drive up my driveway and see if smoke was coming from my chimney.
The third time, the fine was larger but I could prove I was at work from 6AM until 8PM and the chimney chick wrote the ticket at 3PM. Talking reasonably with those people was fruitless so back to my attorney who was getting pretty happy with the situation by then. The problem was not resolved until new tenants moved in to the house next door and they had enough sense not to burn during a burn ban.
Since then, I've moved and have no adjoining properties breaking the rules. It has been a while but these folks were truly the most unreasonable government agency I've ever dealt with.

In my neck of the woods they are called ORCAA (Olympic Region).
I was helping obtain a Demolition Permit for a client this fall and they told the client that they needed testing on some pipes inside the wall and would not issue the Permit until the testing was completed.
I was on the tiller while arguing with the lady that we could not test the pipes until we demo'd the walls. My Dad was hooked up with a nice silver and I was so intent on this conversation that I didn't help him and the newb with us with the net, and he lost the fish right at the boat. I won the argument, eventually.
