Hey Guys, some of us girls really enjoy fishing! and a few of us are actually good at, not to mention the obvious to having one of us along, stuff like lunch, hot coffee, someone to tote your junk around. Life has few pleasures that men and women can share (in public) so let's take advantage of this...invite your female counterpart on a fishing trip---you might be surprised. I know my boyfriend was.

I don't have any problems with woman that fish at all!!! More power to those that do. Woman a lot of times make better fishers anyways because they don't have pre-concieved notions of what works and doesn't work, when you give them advise they listen. In fact, I've been looking for a chick that likes fishing for a long time! So if your young, single, good look'n,and want to swim a steely or two, just drop me a line and we'll hook-up! Hey, just my $.02

I quess it might be ok but maybe there could be a rule about out fishing the guy they are with. I hate to take daughters with. Not only do they outfish me but they rub it in...and their mother is not any better. I dunno. Teach em everything I know(not much)and then they do that to me.. Thats gratitudde for you

I'm in the minority here. I don't think my wife should be allowed to fish. I guess by implication that means no (non-fishing or trainee, married) women should be taught to fish (with their husbands/ boyfriends). This is for the good of the marriage. Let me explain. My wife is a rank beginner. I am a fishing fanatic. My wife could be coaxed to fish only using the strongest arguments. I can easily imagine that we'll be on a steelhead stream and I'll hear one or more of the following lines (a) "I have a snarl or backlash . . . help me pick it out"; (b) "I'm snagged, help me get the lure back" or the dreaded (c) "I'm tired/ cold/ bored and want to go somewhere warm." (This last one cost me a girlfriend when I was 20. The bass were biting at dusk, and so were the skeeters. Beth was dressed for a beach or a bar, not fishing. Never saw her again.)

My response to each of these questions -- then and now -- would be a growl and a "Leave me alone! Can't you see I'm in the heart of the drift." (Grunt and violent strike) "Damn! Your talking made me miss him!"

I've lasted 15 years with a wonderful lady precisely because I practice my obession well away from her and in the presence of other nuts who view freezing (or broiling)their butts off for 12 hours a day for a week at time as 'normal'.

For those women who already know how to fish, please carry on and don't outfish your husbands/ boyfriends/ me so badly that our little boys'egos take yet another beating.

HAR HAR...you guys crack me up!!!

Now we ALL should know by NOW that REAL WOMEN FISH!!! How much better could you have it...all the great traits of a woman, AND fishing???

I think you guys should get your mates involved as much as possible...it's gotta be a great thing to share!!! Unless she complains about breaking her fingernails or chipping her nail polish on the rocks...then I wouldn't!!!

Of COURSE women should fish!!! It's AWESOME fun, and otherwise, between golf and fishing, some of you guys would never SEE your mates if they DIDn't fish!!! Uh-oh...I'd better watch it...maybe that's how you WANT it!!!

Hope you've been catchin' them while I've been sick! I'm feelin' ready to go get 'em again!! Tied lots of leaders while I was in bed with that flu!!! Nothing ELSE to do there!!!

By all means! Especially in the summer in a driftboat on a secluded river. If fishin's slow there are other "sports" that can be pursued-sports that couldn't be pursued with your regular fishin buddies!

I've just got to get in on this one.
Since becoming single a few years back, i've been getting reaquainted with my fishing roots, it was neglected for a lot of reasons. Enjoying fishing or a willingness to learn to enjoy fishing, is on my short list of traits to look for in a spouse. there, i've said it!

I think women should be allowed to do what ever they want. I have a lady friend who can out fish me on sturgeon some times. BUT NEVER ON SALMON OR STEELHEAD! But I don't want to hear the whining or bragging if they get skunked, or out fish me. I agree with the something to look at post. I can only stand smelly ugly guys for so long. Even if I'm one.

The first date with my wife was a jack salmon trip on the Chehalis river. I had a massive hangover and "of-course" she outfished me and it was her first time. Godda blame it on the booze. Now 26 years later if I could ever get her out now I'm sure she would do it again. The only problem is o-dark thirty A.M. is around 10:30 A.M. so she hardly ever goes. I really enjoy taking her and I "always" let her catch all the fishies. She handed off a Steelhead once to her sister-in-law and it was a 20#er. Sis-in-law said "hey, that was fun" didn't have a clue what a 20# steelie was.
I'd like to do the "other things" Eric was talking about. Maybe when I retire and can do a summer-run trip and try it. Sounds like a good trade off. fp

HELL NO!!!!!!! women shouldnt fish!!!! Well at least mine. he he he She always outfishes me. Damn her anyways. The bad thing is she rubs it in my face on a daily basis. Im never taken her again!!!!! Well once she learns how to row the driftboat she MAY be able to come along, MAYBE.
Actually Ithink anyone who wants to fish should. An woman that can handle cold wet rainy days on the river rank really high in my book.
I really enjoy having my girlfriend along (even though she whoops my ass) She packs one hell of a lunch.
Anyways, Guys take your significant other along, you just might find you have the best fishing partner right in front of you eyes. I know I do.

Look at it like having your pie and eating it too. It doesn't get any better. Mine consistently out-fishes me and most of the other guys on the river. A couple of weeks ago there were over 15 boats that put in at the hatchery on the Bogey. All but one that we talked to got nada and she got a nice one after I rowed her ass up into the Dimmel Drift. That afternoon we met back up with some friends including two guides , all had empty fish boxes. Her head was the size of Whale Rock and I'm still hearing about it.

honestly, I wish women would replace a large percentage of the inconsiderate guys on the river. Just look at the Farmgirl's posts, there's a genuine love for the sport and a strong desire to learn...wonder who the lucky guy is?

Well I gotta pit my 2 bits in!!! I wish more women would take up this sport. Try and find one that is willing to put in the effort to go sometimes is hard enough. One that loves it as much as me, now that has to be rare! At 22 I can say most women my age will say just about anything but when it comes down to it they only like fishing when it's sunny and warm and when the fish are biten. I have been out fished by girl friends and it will put a dent in the ego. At this time I don't have one so I really don't have that problem. Maybe some day I will slow down enough for one but I am a go-go guy and am working or going to school or trying to go fishing. so If I had one that I could take fishing every weekend then that would be cool. I have herd those words" all you wanna do is fish". to bad they were so norrow minded, there is more to life than fishen. Not much. I baught a NEW drift boat with the money I was going to spend on the ring for my X after she dumped me. now I think that was a wise investment. she lost out.

I gotta say waders do look much better on a fine woman than any guy so wear them with pride gals. With the number of fish I have caught this year that maybe the only thing that makes my day on a river.

I guess it depends if your sled is big enough for the kitchen sink, washer, and dryer. Careful, keep spare hooks off the bottom of the boat, her bare feet and all. "Honey, whatcha makin' for lunch?" JUST KIDDING!! Of course it's alright. That's kind of a dumb question.

P.S.-- Quick!!! Reel your lines in!!! My first time back as a 'RETURNING ADULT'. Hey, quit tryin' to snag me, ya jerk!!! Uh oh, nets!!! Boy, that hard plastic ball and yarn sure looks tasty!!! AAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

I like it when my wife goes with me, I wish she would go more often. She is pretty much a great fisher when its warm and theres an evening bite, she hates getting up early. But that is when I have my time alone then I go pick her up and she fishes the evening with me. Plus there great to have along if its crowded or you want to fish a certain spot. Because while all the other guys are looking at her I get my cast in to the good spot, then Bam " fish on" . And who could forget about the night time entertainment, so I suggest everyone teach your wife or girlfriend how to fish and it will save your relationship! Peace Superfly

I've fished with the same woman for 43 years, 41 of them while married. It's been great! The only problem is trying to motor from point A to point B...She keeps seeing water that MUST be fished before we can continue. God what I have to put up with huh? :-)

I think women should fish. I was a single father rasing my 2 year old daughter and she was my buddy fishing, and still is at age 7. My wife now enjoys fishing with my now 3 girls and one son. We can all do it! Not all types of fishing would I take my female fishing partners but they can make it fun.-------------------fish on!

Here's how to check her out before you get married. Drive all night to La Push and rent one of those beat up kicker boats with a 25hp motor. Beat your up to Carrol Island and start fishing. O.K.,O.K.,you should cut the bait for her. She should catch no more than a couple of salmon more than you do. If she does catch more than that, don't worry about it. When a brisk south wind comes up, start back to La Push and say something like "I hope this boat holds together long enough to get back in." A bit of rain will help too. Now drive back home, it's OK if she sleeps on the way home. If she has a cheerfull attitude, doesn't complain and doesn't get seasick, marry her. That's what I did 21 years ,two kids and many adventures ago.
P.S. Norwegian women=tough as nails and good looking too!

What's the point?

According to my wife, she could stand near me when steelhead fishing, totally naked with $100.00 bills taped on her and I wouldn't even notice. (I don't think I wouldn't, even though I'm pretty obsessed when I fish - she is a gorgeous redhead, and not totally stupid).

Huntar, you might not notice but the other guys sure would. Ask her when and where she plans on doing this. I will be there. J/K. Anyway, Becareful with rental boats and Pilot Boats. I rented a boat at PA one year and had a damn power boat and Pilot boat swamp my butt. Ever see three guys in a 14 foot boat with over a foot of water in it? NOT FUN. This happened inside the harbor. Dumb ass captain was throwing a four to six foot wake. We had nothing to due but hold on. The power boat was too close to us to motor over his waves and then turn around for the other. Good old USCG did nothing, of course.

I don't know if this is the answer you're looking for or not, but....

My beautiful "other half" and I were married in the middle of a river seven years ago. The second day of our honeymoon was spent on the Cowlitz River on a guided spring chinook fishing trip. Our summer vacations have included numerous trips to Westport, Sekiu, and Port Angeles on our 23' boat. And yes, she frequently out fishes me. (unlike my other fishing partners) And on those slow fishing days.... well, lets just say that we find other things to do! May our lives always be blessed with each other as fishing partners. The company is second to none!! (and she smells lots better too!)
