Hey guys, I am thinking about heading down south for some springer fishing. I am not sure if I should hit the Cowlitz, Kalama, or NF Lewis. I am also not sure if I should bring the drift boat or not, since I have never been on any of these rivers except the Cowlitz. I have never floated the Cowlitz, but would like to. Anyone know of any easier routs for a first timer on the river? Have any springers showed up at Barrier Damn yet? Just curious if anyone has any tips or pointers for me before I drive from Aberdeen. If you don't want to post your secrets feel free to email me at answer@techline.com
Thanks, Andy Matthews

Hey Andy, if you don't mind a crowd stick your boat into the bumper boat hole near the hatchery up on the N.F. It's been spotty on the Lewis below there though, as well as for the Kalama- maybe because of less rain this April? Try drifting different sections of the Cow. If you have a partner try backtrolling with both standard Warts and diver and baits. If not crowded, anchor at the upper end of deep holes and backbounce bait combos into them. Of course, driftfishing and boondoggin will work too. Post how it's going. And if you get close enough to P-town maybe you can deliver my jig/rag order that the mailman forgot to? Steve

Andy, I fished the N. Lewis last Wednesday and it was slow for Springers. I did pick up two winter steelhead, but turned them both back (no fin clips). Was surprised to see wild fish in the N. Lewis; it's not known for significant natural production of steelhead. Of course, they might have been strays, or maybe the hatchery guys didn't bother to clip them. Anyone experienced this on the N. Lewis or have any idea how unclipped steelhead are showing up there?
Mike

Thanks everyone, I am gonna give it a shot, probably with a partner. I will let you all know how I do. Steve, you should get your order sometime at the beggining of this week, probably Monday or Tuesday. Sent it off Thursday morning. Have a good one.
Thanks, Andy

Andy the NF Lewis has been quite good to me this past week. Fished 4 days got 3 springers. You can not fish from Colvin creek to Johnson Creek from a boat. But if I were you I would still bring your drift boat. Put in on the hatchery side. Less traffic there. Start pulling plugs or divers with sand shrimp. I have had good luck with orange spin glows above the shrimp. The happa hole and the golf course hole have been good to me.KEEP THE RIVERS CLEAN!! and good luck
