just wanted to pass on some information for any of you fellow alumaweld stryker owners. i have heard and now confirmed several transom failures on the above model. it seems that alumaweld tried to build a lighter transom on their recent stryker outboard models. the bracing on the inside of the transom does not extend all the way to the sides and places a great amount of stress on the but weld that connects the transom and sides. i have also heard of cracks around the area the motor is through bolted to the transom. i contacted alumaweld and they have agreed to pay up to $300 dollars to upgrade the transom. they send your several pre-cut pieces that are welded onto the extisting bracing and extend to the sides. my part was to remove the rear floatation boxes, the floor decking, the fuel tank, and all wiring, which was no fun job. my boat is a 1998 18 foot stryker open center console, which has a prorated hull warranty. anyways if you have the same model and want further info e- mail as i have been through the process.

That's not what I would call standing behind your product. They should cover the entire repair. A 1998 hull is a pretty young hull to be falling apart like that! Makes me wonder what other problems will present after a few more seasons? I don't mean to bash Alumaweld but if my 1.5 year old transom was cracking... Thats why I own a Thorbuilt. Good Luck.

Heh Tyeeterror,
Doesn't sound like Alumaweld wants to stand behind the boat. Tell them you want them to upgrade all of the stern to new spects at their cost. If they say no, tell them you are going to call the Coast Guard and see if they have any info on Alumaweld boats and if the they(CG)is going to issue a recal for safety reasons. This should make Alumaweld take notice. I used the same method with a engine manufacturer several years ago, and they changed their tune, when they thought the CG was going to be brought in over safety reasons and the real chance of loss of life from their poor workmanship. Try it it may work. See if they can play hardball, chances are they will strike out.

Thats the reason "Willie" Illingsworth sold out the company and name! Mass-produced boats lack the personal quality. If ya buy a Alumaweld these days your buying an aluminum Bay... Especially the lower models. Theres a reason there much cheaper. Spend a little more and get the Quality craftsmanship that is a result of "custom made".

Bob D,

You took the word right out of my mouth!! I am a proud owner of a Willie for that reason of cutting quality to up production. I try and tell people how great Willie is but you just don't understand untill you have one yerself. and no Pro-rated warranty!!! if it's wrong they fix it no questions!!

One day I wanna buy a sled and I allready know it will be the Willie Predator.
