SPANAWAY – A convenience store clerk was shot in the torso during a robbery in Spanaway Thursday. The suspect fled, but the suspect's car was found later, and two of the three people inside the car were arrested, authorities said.

suspect.jpgThe Pierce County Sheriff's Office said the 30-year-old female convenience store clerk was shot at about 2:30 p.m. while working at the Pacific Quickmart on Pacific Avenue South and 167th Street South. The gunman, seen on surveillance video, was a black male in his late teens or early 20s wearing a dark hoodie, dark jeans and dark hoodie. They said the man drove off in a white Ford Taurus.

The suspect's car was found later at a gas station in Tacoma, and the three people inside were detained. The sheriff's office said later that two of the three were arrested -- the suspected shooter and the driver.

“They were way out-gunned and out-manned so we were glad this went down peacefully but we weren’t about to let them take off again. They’ve already shown too much violence," Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

He added that there have been a rash of robberies in the area by a man who matches the suspect's description, and detectives believe these suspects are responsible for other armed robberies.

“We’ve had multiple robberies in this area and the suspect matches the description of some of our other robberies out there and they have been pretty brazen during daylight hours.”

The 30-year-old victim was treated at the hospital for a gunshot and released Thursday night. Her father talked to reporters, and expressed anger at young men who would shoot a store clerk for money.

“I’m so very angry right now, you know? No shooting! No shooting! OK? Hey young guys, you need money, you work, you work.”

I remember those. Skate, in all seriousness those STS's are pretty fast I hear. What year and engine?

its not fast... fast is a 10 second car, this will run mid/high 14s if i try to blow it up, or 15 with an average driver... im beating most EPA standards in it, right about 16 mpg which is whats stated, 28 freeway... not bad for a 4100 pound car... ive had the MPG up to 18 but that was when i first got it...

300 HP/295 FTLBS Northstar, is/was one of the most powerful front wheel drive cars ever made... just now the last 2 or so years have they started making more FWD cars in the 300-+ range...

like i said tho i drive it like a granny, the power is there when i need it...

I remember some of those diesel rabbits would get around 55mpg on the freeway. Wish my truck got that. My folks hybrid Lexus gets 48 mpg on the freeway and 48 in town. A full tank would get them close to San Fran.

As are the concrete blocks under the mobile when you need prop it up for some quick cash...

I bought a 1980 Rabbit Diesel coupe from a hulk hauler for $50. He dropped it off the hook in my parking lot, I put new rings and bearings in it and did a valve job on it, a new battery and a few days later I was driving it. At that time I lived a little more that three miles from work. I could fill the tank for $10 and drive it to and home from work for three weeks on that $10 fill up, and it was fun to drive. We had it for about four years before a slight leak in the windshield ruined the fuse panel, and the lights, heat and wipers got a little more than sketchy so it went away one sunny day.

I miss that buggy.
