My neighbor Lady is a professional pie baker. she cooks around 1800 pies mostly for charity ( a godly Woman) A few days ago she introduced herself and asked me what my favorite pie was. I told her my Mom use to cook Banana cream pies that I loved, she said she would bake me one and bring it over. She knocked on my door today with this beautiful pie. People are so much nicer in the county it's something I'm not use to. I will NEVER live in a big city again. Guess what's for desert tonight.....suckers!

Banana cream or wild blackberry. My mother in law always does banana cream, chocolate cream, apple pie, and lemon meringue for the holidays. My dad does an awesome wild blackberry pie. Takes him a long time to pick the small wild blackberries. These are not the Himalaya type that grow along the road.

I love the little black berries, they have so much more flavor. I know a few honey holes for those, a lot of work for a pie. Sounds deelish.

Blueberry or warm apple with slice of melted cheddar on top. Anyone else do the apple pie and cheddar thing? The GF thought I was crazy until I forced her to try it. She's believer now.

It all depends on the quality of what goes in and who bakes it. I've had the best ever more than 10 times.

One thing is for sure, I can't bake a pie like some of the older ladies and I hope it's not a dying tradition.

Lots of people can bake a pie. A few can bake that pie in a perfect pie crust. Thankfully my younger daughter learned the trick from her mom, who learned it from her mom, who learned it from her mom. That's as far back as I know. My favorites are apple, huckleberry, and wild blackberry - the native ones, not the invasives. Huckleberry and wild blackberry are hard to come by. Takes me all day to pick enough for a pie.

Today, I'm going through the dessert line at a local casino, and I tell the sweet young girl serving that I'd like a good-sized piece of strawberry/rhubarb pie. The slice she put on my plate exceeded my expectations, so I acknowledged her generosity and wished her a HAPPY PI(E) DAY! She smiled back, and then happily stated, "Today is my FRIDAY!" The line was long, so I just moved on to the soft serve station...

I guess Pi(e) Day hasn't attained the public participation and national recognition that Grandparents Day, or Take Your Dog to Work Day annually receives. Pie lovers are going to have to work harder to change that.

Had some pecan pie and Marion berry pie for lunch today at work to celebrate Pi day. Today is also my youngest son's birthday so had to have some ice cream cake this evening. Kind of a going away party as he has to report for work Friday afternoon in SD.
