Stlhead, In case you didn't notice this subject was initiated by longtime posters on this board and furthermore it's sourpuss attitudes like yours that have kept the sports fishers in this state groveling and begging for the scraps thrown to us by the bad guys. Do you like the nets? I sure don't, to the tune of over a grand donated to I-696. What were you doing? Probably griping about what a lousy job Tom Nelson was doing. Get a life.

For every one calling B.S. on Carlson, I have one thing to say. Any step in the right direction is just that, A step in the right direction. We haven't seen any of those lately. Do you want a little or none?

Funny how Carlson has saved the fish runs with his plan that really isn't a plan and how he is already getting votes to be the next govenor when in reality he hasn't even gotten the republican nomination yet.Boy aren't American politics great.

Actually I voted for the net ban which would have had no effect on tribes as so many seem to believe. Carlson did not. I didn't say who I was voting for but to register on this board just to sway votes is not too convincing to me...if that is what has happened. Has anyone seen his latest ad on TV? A long ad to say he pushed for Three Strikes and lower taxes. I didn't hear a thing about the environment or fishing. Why is that?

Do you really think John Carlson is that concerned with the sportfishermans interest? I think his heart is with others that don't really care if there are fish to be caught, they just want ESA listings of their backs. Here are some links for your education. Read them an make up you own minds.

Common Sense Salmon Recovery www.salmonjustice.com

Columbia River Alliance www.teleport.com/~cra
Check out their membership

Pacific Leagal Foundation www.pacificlegal.org
zero in www.pacificlegal.org/gp-water.htm

These groups all have the same theme as John Calson, put all the focus on the harvest sector of salmon recovery to get heat off everyone else.

For those of you who have not bothered to read Carlson's press release, I would like to quote from point two of his four point salmon recovery plan.

2)Harvest: Remove all nets - tribal and commercial - from our state's rivers (all freshwater) and compensate for lost income.

The last time I looked, the only non-tribal freshwater net fishery in this state was in the lower Columbia River, and I would think that by now we all should realize that the Governor of the state of Washington is not going to be able to do diddly-squat about changing the terms of the Boldt decision concerning tribal fisheries. In other words, if you think that John Carlson, if elected, will have any significant impact on commercial netting, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you.
