took Katie camping back down to the Cowlitz because she liked it a few weeks ago when we went, so we went again for her birthday on Thursday...
the first time i went i was going to be selling a rod but the guy backed out the day before, and i already made the reservations so we had to go anyways, i fished for about an hour that day and didnt get anything, mainly just scoping stuff out with my friend then came home the next day...
so we get there around 1:30 ish and get everything unpacked and such and get down to the river about 3:15 started fishing and hooked this nice fish about 3:30, get it in, decide thats fine for the day and head back to camp...
wake up the next morning and head down, nothing much happening, saw 1 Summer caught, fished next to a nice older guy that had been fishing the river for 30+ years, learned alot from him on free drifting... nada in the morning, fished an hour or so, maybe 2...
so, we take off and go for lunch, drove to some towns and then on the way back tried to get close to St Helens as i havent even seen it in 25+ years probably, that i can remember cool looking mountain...
head back home, have a beer, and head back to the river at about 2...
2:15, i hook into a tank, legit 18-20 pound fish, no joke in her whatsoever,
worked me down into branches, got it out, get it right to the bank and i tell Katie to get behind it when i slide it up, as we had no net, nor room for the net...
fish turns on its side, and im thinking BAM, dead... i tell her what to do, and right at the last second, the fish rights, makes a slow U turn, and takes off...
hook rips out...
GONE...
no big deal, it happens....
at this point there are now people watching, we were there alone.... a couple people come down, and i hook another fish that is smaller, and this one i get in, 15 minutes after hooking the first one...
had net marks on its side, dime bright tho so i wasnt concerned...
then, a bunc of people came down, 4 up river, 4 downriver, 20 minutes later i hook into another fish, get it up, whack it too...
then it started being a clusterfook so i left... i spent about 4-5 hours fishing hooked 4, landed 3, and i didnt stand with the dickheads...
i was a great weekend, Katie had lots of fun, taking pictures of sh!t 300 yards away that you cant even see
but we saw some cool stuff, she learned alot as well....
till the Summers get there...
