Now this shows how the Bear Runs Through the Buckwheat ! If anyone gets a ticket for being too close to a SRK whale, please contact me for consultation prior to going to court. One beer, and I'll get you off the hook. (Pardon the pun) Sounds like a great opportunity for a sweet new money generator to help with your retirement and play plans ! Like the dudes getting folks outta timeshare scams ! We just need a new Business name for this effort. Tugs Orca Advisory Servise ? Two thumbs up

Sounds like a great business model. I can think of at least a couple more retirees from the Enforcement Arm who would probably sign on to help. Maybe even a few non-enforcement with rules experience.

Heard over 400 steelhead were netted by the tribe last week on the Chehalis. We have to use 1 single barbless hook and no bait. Here is their schedule through the end of February. https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/tribal/net-schedules#south-coast

I don't get it? You really don't have to use bait to catch. We are our own worst enemy. If it does close because of excessive criminal angler behavior, it should close for the tribe also.

If the criminal behavior is on the rec side, why should the net fishery close unless there is either an overall conservation concern or they are also fishing outside their rules?

Because if the situation was vice versa, and the tribe closed it for themselves, we would be forced off also. We all know who is in control.

How about enforcement does their job and issues citations? Not everyone is breaking the rules.

He said that wdfw was going to talk about it and see if they r going to keep it open.. This posting is only about the Wynoochee River........ It's crazy to me to take a river that gets a steelhead winter run plant of 170,000 plus 2 years of any returning fish that weren't removed from the "trap" and trucked above the Dam, that should be returning this year. QIN net fishers are doing good in their net fishing BUT OUR WDFW personnel decide to "tie the hands tie sports fishers", with a bait, no scent, ban!!!!!! Duh, why????? Any fish that gets by the QIN nets and the few that are getting caught by restricted gear, are just going to be trucked about the dam.......to die!!!! There is no way for any adult steelhead and probably no smolt to get pass the dam. Duh, waste of money....... Reduce the winter run plants, and put more $$$$$$ into summer run steelhead plants......better eating fish anyway!!!!!! New novel idea......Every time there is a "hand tie restriction" on the sports side...do the same on the Gill/set net side, make them give up 1. cork line or 2. lead line or 3. net......see how they like it......lol

Why do the netters have to tie their hands just because the recs won't follow their rules? Folks are fishing to a number. Kill X fish and you're done.
The tie your hands restrictions are designed to spread the fishery out over more days (opportunity). You could allow bait, scent, etc. and be off the water a lot sooner.

Remember I used the Wynoochee River, that has the trap, and any hatchery steelhead, after Lake Aberdeen hatchery gets any brood they need, are put between the dams OR trucked above the dam.
1. I say "there is NO WAY WDFW has a clue about how many fish are caught per day!!!! Yea, I know they have some monitors working SOME days but "knowing fishermen", I'm not sure they all will tell how many fish they have or lost.
2. Remember "all hatchery fish must die" and for sure if they are netted and if they are trucked above the dam they will die.
3. Punch card data isn't helpful, time lag, are fish punched, and then are the cards even returned????
4. Yea, someone will say maybe a Wynoochee Wild winter steelhead might be hooked and might die on the release but for sure 100% will die in the gill net or the wild steelhead that are trucked about the dam.
5. Hatchery steelhead do NO GOOD being trucked above the dam, except when they die, bodies might feed other things.
6. Who REALLY cares how many hatchery steelhead make it to the trap????
7. Wynoochee should have the "bait, scent, barbless hook" removed as soon as a emergency regulatory can be written......IMO
8. Taxpayers pay for those 160,000 to 170,000 fish to be raised, actually above 7400 line there is no legal fishing and the trapped fish which could be "hauled down river for a second run could be done, and has in the past, instead just haul them above the dam.............grrrrrrrrrr
PS....I live close to the Wynoochee, fished it more than a "few times" in my 57 years of living in Central Park

And then there's the disappearance/misuse of the mitigation money...
