has anyone ever tried heated socks?
i'll put on 2 pairs of reg. socks, then 1 pair of wool socks over them, plus i'll be in my insulated hip boots and my feet still get cold.

Fishinutt,

I've never tried the electric heated socks because I'm doubtful that they address the root cause of cold feet in fishing and wading conditions.

What are your "regular" socks? For me, the key to warm feet has been either a pair of polypro liner socks followed by a pair of wool socks, or for winter, two pair of heavy wool socks inside a bootfoot wader large enough to accomodate it all without compressing the socks. If your boots are too small to accomodate heavy socks, the only way to keep your feet warms is to keep walking briskly, and never stop.

The goal under winter fishing conditions is to keep your feet cool and dry - hence the liner sock - not warm and sweaty. If the sweat can't get away from your feet, it will condense and make them cold.

Good luck!

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

I think that your boot size is a big factor if they are to tight and you stuff them full of socks the socks do not work. For me its two pair of wool socks. I have also used the little heat pads you can buy and put in your boots they work well.

Ditto on the boot size issue...too tight boots cut down on circulation, which is the source of body heat. I manage to stay pretty comfortable in stocking foot waders with a polypro liner sock, and a polarfleece outer sock. If its really cold I'll add a wool sock over that, but thats all I can squeeze into my boots without making them too tight.

I feel your pain! I had the same problem. I bought top of the line 5mm waders, poly socks ect. I finally solved the problem. I switched to breathable waders. They are less constricting in the boot. I used them for the first time last winter. Poly socks under quality wool, fleece pants and...Wow! I was reborn. Next to the purchase of my first IMX rod these waders really allowed me to enjoy the short days of winter. A Loomis rod, warm feet and Rob on the sticks...it just don't get much better than that!.......DB

I have used them and they do help. They have a wire which runs across the toes, it helps to keep from getting chilled but don't expect it to feel like putting your feet on a warm air duct. Even with them you still need layers for insulation.
