I think Aerofly has it right, color is the critical factor as well as size. I've fished both a palmered jig and a conventionally tied jig and they are virtually the same in the water. Eyed jigs have been extremely effective this year.....field testing has shown that eyes have positive triggering effects on fish and can be a definite plus on a jig head.
