While travelling up and down the Columbia between Biggs and Hood River, I see something that confuses and disturbs me.
Two years ago, a new boat launch site, and dock was built at Celilo. Closer inspection revealed a surrounding fence, and locked gate with a sign that indicated it was an area dedicated to treaty fishing. Currently new sites are being constructed at Biggs (WA side), White Salmon (under the Hood River Bridge), Hood River (rest area approx. one mile above Hood River, on the OR side).
These are essentially areas that are dedicated to (Treaty/Indian)COMMERCIAL FISHING.
If the fish stocks for the upper Columbia and Snake Rivers are not able to endure the incidental mortality of sport C&R fishing, why are they building commercial sites????
(Note to RT and Bob: If you would like some digital pictures of the sites and signs I can get them for you).
