You may have seen McCain's headline of the day -- that he'd fire the chairman of the SEC. Now certainly I'm one who believes this guy DESERVES to get fired--he's been basically a joke in my view, totally asleep at the switch.

But my point is this: McCain *can't* fire this guy, even if he wins. It's not within his power to do so. Classic "Al Haig" type blunder IMHO.

Oh, if you don't know who Christopher Cox/SEC Chair is, by coincidence this weekend's "This American Life" radio show did a lengthy segment on how badly Cox is mismanaging the crisis -- obviously produced before the carnage of the last 4 days, but in the prelude to it.
