Rarely has the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained or lost more than one percent during Inauguration Day trading in the last 80 years. In only five sessions has the Dow moved more than 1 percent. Its largest drop, of nearly 3 percent, occurred Nov. 11, 1963, the day Lyndon Johnson was sworn in on Air Force One following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The largest gain, 2.7 percent, occurred Jan. 21, 1985 when Ronald Reagan took the oath of office for the second time.
