I think one school of thought is that if we ain't f.ckin around in other countries' messes we will have less need to "defend" ourselves. But if needed, militias and every able bodied person would defend their community....people tend to fight and defend more tenaciously when it's family, friends and farm that they are fighting for. Kinda like how it was done when we were under British rule.
