He had been sent to the slam for, among other things, nearly beating a 73 year old woman to death, using a tire iron, while robbing her. "Dear Rodney" was an extremely violent felon with a long rap sheet. I am well aware that his violent felonious past was inadmissable at the LAPD officers' trial. Too bad.
