When removing the banana from the boat, also remember not to actually touch it, and for gods sake, don't let it actually touch the boat. Wear gloves, use a towel, flick it off with a stick, whatever it takes to get that thing off the boat. JohnnyCoho and I had a banana incident last week, not a pretty site. Luckily the one in my boat wasn't peeled and eaten IN THE BOAT. Very bad mojo.

Parker hit a 20+er on the Sky with me last year and landed, photographed and released the beast no problem. My dad was with us on that day and he brought a banana in his lunch. Didn't discover it until halfway through the day and once it was discovered we had no more hits. I think it has to do with the mindset that you think your jinxed, you probably will be. I still follow the "no bananas" rule - better safe than sorry.

It was October and Saukit2em had invited one of his ScandaSweedishHoovian buddies with him. Not only did this guy have a 'nanner, he had a whole bunch of them!
So, being the nice fella that I am, I told him to remove the 'nanner's from the boat because they were considered bad luck. When he refused to comply, I tossed the whole bunch out and in to the river!
Not only did I land something like 10 chrome coho's that day, he didn't get a strike. Matter of fact, we had a huge coho/chum take down a plug and after handing the rod to this guy, he managed to break the plug and fish off!
Notice how I got the 20+ lb. steelie and not his Dad???? I think we got off lucky that day and only managed to curse his father and not the boat!
I'm telling you! NO BANANAS!
Parker

I am going to have the guys down at Quik Sign Shops make up a bunch of NO BANANAS stickers. I think with so many anti-banana folk out there they will be in high demand. Anybody interested?

I'm all over it! Gotta stop the whole thing from ever happening only problem is that those who its never happened to don't believe thats its a issue. To all non-believers its a real thing . When your buddy screams throw it over then throw it overboard. Tight lines Kevin

I'll take some, they'll be great in our boats in AK, and mine here as well, absolutely no nana's in any of my boats!!! let me know what the cost is. As for the story behind the banana in the boat thing, who knows!! An old sea dog by the name of Tuck Harry and another AK guide, Rick.Z both told me the story, which I don't remember, all I know it's bad!! (Just say no to nanas)

I saw a no banana sticker on a used drift boat over at Wild Hair boats in Tualatin Oregon. The owner said the boat was used by a Northern Washington guide. The sticker is a picture of a banana, with a red line through it. The stickers must exist out there somewhere.

A lot of requests for NO BANANAS stickers already. I can basically get anything I want ordered from one of the sign shops or print shops that the company I work for uses. Apparently Bob got his NO BANANAS sticker from a client that must of had it made somewhere as nobody has ever seen one in the stores, or so they say. Is that true, Bob? Not too difficult to do as I can even make 'em myself on the computer and print them on sticky back paper with some kind of clear laminate over the top to protect them. I'll look into it and figure out a way to distribute them once I have some prototypes. I have not had the pleasure of seeing the one on Bob's boat, I won't until april. Parker saw it in Alaska on Bob's boat last summer. I know that it has a banana with a red circle and slash through it but is there anything else to it. If that's it, piece of cake. Just find an acceptable banana image and we'll use it. Maybe we can do as Kev said with the fundraiser for The Wild Steelhead Coaliton. It can say something on the bottom of the sticker like "Yes, we have no bananas, we have no bananas today and no wild steelhead either, donate to the Wild Steelhead Coalition". They might cost a buck to make but we can sell them for $5, $10, $20 or something like that to raise money for the cause. Just a fundraising thought as I am not quite ready to sell one of my kidneys on the black market but I will if I have to. Keep the ideas coming.
Justin

My fishin' buddy won't even let me eat a 'nanner for breakfast with my cornflakes before going fishin', let alone put one in the boat. Now I LIKE a 'nanner with my cornflakes, but I like to catch fish even more, (besides, better safe than fishless) so I just do coffee and donuts on fishin' days. Hell, he SWEARS that banannas have some sort of fish-repelling oil in the skin, and you have to wash your hands after even touching one to get the stank off. Greg

I have a customer named Pacific Truck Colors down here that can probably make these stickers. He made custom Willie stickers for my boat. They do a lot of graphics on semi trucks like Kawasaki, Coke, Sony etc. I will have an answer tomorow on price. I will ask about a 7" diameter circle with a red line through the banana like Bob had. Hope you don't mind copying your idea Bob.

After reading T-Flings "Bananas in driftboats?!?" post I felt badly enough for his concerns that I posted the real truth about it in his thread. Since there seems to be some actual concern about bananas and fishing within this thread I will copy it over to here too (even though many of you know the reality already, despite your fun posts): Even though there has been some fun about the affect of bananas on fishing on this BB lately, I can tell you are concerned about it; so I will tell you like it really is. Even at the risk of sounding like a condescending an*l retentive . A banana in your boat can't cause bad fishing luck. It can only cause superstitious people to focus on a folly factor they aren't sure about so have a 'better be safe than sorry' mentality. Also, if fish don't like the scent of bananas, they dislike the scent of human [Bleeeeep!] even more. But neither sneak out enough bad fish scent from their encapsulation to float over onto your fishing gear to affect anything but a non-thinking guy's head; with perhaps the exception of a night of bad burritos before going fishing . And if banana scent does bother fish, you can simply wash your hands in a good fishing soap or Lemon Joy and rinse thoroughly; as you would after expunging yourself. And for every guy who swears that a banana in his boat caused a lack of fish there are just as many that have caught fish with them in their boat, including me many times. So forget about the frickin 'Nanas and keep your hands clean and focus on your fishing. Pretty simple . --------------- Know Fish or No Fish. - RT [This message has been edited by Reel Truth (edited 12-06-2000).]
