Looks like a good Smith river king to me. Beautiful river,and a beautiful fish. When did you catch that?

It's bigger than any king I have caught and my largest is 40 lbs. Nice fish, I wish it had been let go to spawn but understand that was not the usual practice in those days.

I have gotten one around 40. But it was dark. My friend got a 52 on the Chetco. It was a monster. You could fit a softball in it's mouth. The Smith and Chetco get abnormally large fish ,especially the Chetco. Beautiful stream both of them. Frank who was your guide?

I remember Chet worked at Ralph's Supermarket downtown in Poulsbo when I was growing up. The Supermarket is now That's A Some Italian Restaurant and a some coffee and book places. John Kennedy Jr. and Caroline Bissette dined there once and you can sit at their table if you come here.

Was that fish caught near a certain take out in the later 90's by chance?

When I was a kid we'd spend the first 2 weeks at Pillar Point during the mid 70's to early 80's until the "first" El Nino hit. The 1st El nino, coupled with a multiutude of other factors (Bolt Decision, Overharvest, Clear Cutting, Urban Sprawl, Dams, etc) finally caught up with the Pacific salmon population. This signaled the beginning of the downward spiral of the salmon collapse that we're still reeling from today.

I landed a beauty of a steelhead by Houchi bridge once on a bouncing Betty puff ball and roe. I need to fish the Smith more often. it's just such a grind of a drive for me. I like the S fork Eel. I have some killer places I like to hit when the water is too low for drift boats.

Never fished it, but have spent plenty of time on the Smith with a
gold pan in my hand. Some serious gold still to be had in that river,
but you'll have to dive deep water to get it.
