Just got a GL2 1025C 8-17 lb medium heavy for Christmas!!!!!!
Never thought I would own a Loomis. Is this a good drift rod for steelhead, coho and chums? I can trade for a 1024 8-12 lb. from where it was bought.

Have been using Lamiglas 8-12 lb medium action for the last 4 years with a Quantum bait caster, also have drifted with Abu 5500.

What recommendation for a reel do you think would be best suited to match the Loomis rod?

Sorrrrry about all the questions, but I probably won't be sleeping tonight thinking about the new rod. Any input would be much appreciated, Thank You

If you dont mind shellin' out the $ dough $ get a chronarch. I love mine! Or the old bantam professionals. 100&200. The 50's rule for nookies! Those would be my top choices for the lightest most senstive combos. Without sacraficing quality or killer drags. They both take abuse...serious abuse! The carado at half the price is a great reel too.

You got a great rod there. Like with anything else, get the best you can afford. I love the Shimano line of reels and also the Quantum 1311 mg's. I am sure that whatever you get you'll do well, that rod is a fish catcher

Great rod. I have used mine for all the above and also nookies and blackmouths on the sound. I'd have to agree with bk on the reels. If money is a prob then go with the corado.

Both nice poles, if that's your only rod stick with it, it will fish everything. If you have another heavier pole or don't salmon (chinook) fish as much, then get the 1024c, it's more sensitive and you can break just about any metalhead on 12# test.

I have a 1025 and it is probably one of my most favorite and most versatile rods! I use it for steelhead, silvers, springers, just about anything. Since you already have an 8-12 Lami. I would stick with the 1025. Good luck!!

I have that exact rod. i use it for everthing. Have caught 14 lbs steelhead to 30 kings in the river. good all around rod!

I have the GL3 1025 4C, 8-17 med-heavy, which is the travel version in 4 piece (don't think they make them anymore??). I have used it all over WA and AK without a flaw. There is a river in AK we fish that is narrow with alot of log jams on it. The rod handles up to 30 lb kings real well. I use an Abu 6501 on it. I haven't checked out the newer reels simply because that setup has worked great for me. You will be amazed at the sensitivity for such a powerful rod. If you will be looking for versatility, I would stay with it.

I also have a 1082 6-10lb for steelhead but seem to use the 1025 way more.
