The golf course at Lake Limerick in Shelton used to have a pond on it loaded with bass. They weren't huge, but they were hungry, and would clobber any topwater plug you threw out there.

They had some bunghole that would come and chase you off the course, but you could usually catch 4 or 5 bass before he showed up.

That happened at the golf course I fish until one day the grounds keeper came up and told us he put those bass in there 20 years ago and was stoked we were catching them. He gave us a time frame when we could fish with impunity . Another time a sheriff came up and asked me what I was doing and I caught a bass,he said "[Bleeeeep!] I gotta come fish this when I'm off duty !!"
