I have 3 pairs of Whites (3 Smoke Jumpers & a set of Pacs). Damn fine boots, as I bought my first set when I was 15yo, measured and molded ($220 w/tax and delivered-1986). Last time I had them rebuilt at the factory, they said, no mas', that was all they could squeeze out of them. I think they've been totally rebuilt 4 times. I've had my old man's set since '95, and had them rebuilt once since then. I picked up a totally rebuilt pair from a guy for $100 2 years ago, as he couldn't fit into them after they were rebuilt?? Come to find out, they were modified to insulated and that changed everything for his size/fit...they're my favorite boot now! As the old saying goes, you don't wear White's...White's wear you!

I don’t know about that specific La Sportiva model, but I will say that I blasted through some expensive “work in the woods” type boots even when greasing them religiously. This was at an upriver job I had for 7 years so I am talking everyday wet, everyday dry. I finally went to La Sportiva because I thought why not mountaineering boots since nothing seemed to last. The La Sportiva outlasted Danner and other brands I had tried many times over.

Scarpa, Meindel, La Sportiva, Crispi et al. Really good, stiff mountaineering boots are THE most important piece of backcountry gear. Period. I will spend whatever has to be spent to have the best of the best. Starting prices these days for exceptional boots is $500.

I have 9.0" Meindel 'Perfekt' Hunters. 400 gram Thinsulate under 1 pc leather uppers and Goretex w/ Superfeet Camo Green Hunter insoles. I have never, not once, had my feet get wet, pinched, hot, sore or blistered. Coupled with heavy gators and I'm 100% water proof from my knee down. As the name says, they are literally 'Perfekt'! As with all boots, you have to maintain the leather, but if you take care of them, they'll take care of you.

I'm a gear nerd and great boots get me all hot and bothered. Nips are hard. Sorry...
