Side note: About half of Seattle City Light's hydroelectricity comes from two dams that they own.

Puget Sound Energy, which almost all of the rest of western Washington, gets zero percent of their energy from the BPA...theirs is about 1/3 gas generation, 1/3 coal generated, and 1/3 hydroelectric.

The 1/3 hydro comes form their own dams on the Baker, Snoqualmie Falls, and Puyallup Rivers...shockingly, none of which are in Stevens County, or anywhere in eastern Washington.

So even those Socialist BPA dams don't do much for those damn libruhls in western Washington.

Fish on...

Exactly. Damn hippy Capitalists having their tax dollars redistributed to those conservative Socialists.

Someone should pass a law, I tell ya.

I cheer every time I see a bunch of ignorant fools calling to make their own State of Jefferson to avoid they tyranny of those damn hippies.

They would immediately lose half of their revenue, and the minute they had to start paying for their own services they'd be broke.

Maybe they can eat dams.

Grand Coulee Dam is the largest hydropower producer in the United States, generating more than 21 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.

If Stevens County had their salmon and steelhead runs restored by the removal of said dam you would experience a large spike in power rates. You can connect the dots.

Your rates would go up even more and you could learn to eat sagebrush and sand.

So, just to recap...

Stevens County is a Socialist county that has its revenues doubled by having King County send over billions of dollars in cash, from our tax dollars.

Our wealth is re-distributed, you might say.

This is countered...and let me make sure I have this right...by a gigantic federal Socialist program, the BPA, and somehow the Socialists in Stevens County get credit for this, because this giant Federal Socialist program, Grand Coulee Dam, is in eastern Washington, but not even in Stevens County, but is in fact three counties away, in Douglas County?

This...is literally the type of logic that conservative Socialists bring to the table.

Fish on...

Todd

Truth.

It also had to pass thru Canada, so does that make the water more, or less, Socialist?

On a more serious note, as noted above a few times, I don't mind this situation. Washington State is Washington State. I have family in Stevens County, and have re-distributed a few turkey dinners from there back to King County wink

We're all one state, and we all pay in, and we all get back. If Stevens County doesn't have the revenue for its services, then the counties that have the revenue should help out...it's literally how it works.

I think Washington State is better for having Stevens County just as it is, I'd rather it be more wild and less developed, and if that means less tax revenue, then that means less tax revenue. It's still worth it.

(though Stevens County does continually vote down any increases in their property taxes, knowing they can rely on King County to make up the difference for them)

I just get tired of the handwringing and butthurting from those that have no problem taking the money, but still complain about the tyranny of those who are providing it.

That hypocrisy is astounding.
