Even only as far back as January you would be in pretty good shape right now, up 35% or so?

Silver not too bad either, gonna break $20 soon, was at $12 around January I think.

You know you never pay sales tax when you purchase physical metal and never pay capitol gains or income tax on your earnings, its a pretty good deal. Also no one can confirm or audit your wealth held in physical metals as long as you maintain possession which means you are under no burden to declare it so it does not count as taxable wealth.

When society collapses and you are sitting on a pile of gold, do you BBQ it, or is it better steamed?

Do you throw it at Bigfoots to scare them away, or will Bigfoots pick up a Gnome and throw one at you in response?

Fish on...

Rich is correct that gold has been quietly going up... along with my investment portfolio containing gold ETF’s. No you can’t eat it, wipe your ass with it, and it cannot block the government from spying on you, but in an investment portfolio it has considerably more utility than cash.

I agree that gold is a good investment opportunity, I just think that when society collapses no one will care that you have a bunch of gold locked in a bank vault somewhere.

We inherited a bunch of silver and gold. Lots of positives about them, but you have to sell them to use them. With our stocks, bonds, and other stuff we can live off of the dividends, interest, and so on so that it is a constant source of funds.

When the collapse comes, I'll sell you a fresh walleye for 10 lbs of gold.

I'll need it to make sinkers.

"While many tradable financial securities, such as stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs, are subject to short-term or long-term capital gains tax rates, the sale of physical precious metals is taxed slightly differently. Physical holdings in gold or silver are subject to a capital gains tax equal to your marginal tax rate, up to a maximum of 28%. That means individuals in the 33%, 35%, and 39.6% tax brackets only have to pay 28% on their physical precious metals sales. Short-term gains on precious metals are taxed at ordinary income rates."

This is my shocked face, that you can't see.

I doubt an under the table tax evading mushroom chomping handyman is anywhere near a marginal tax rate that would render owning gold immune to capital gains taxes.

I am also pretty sure that owning a pile of gold when the predicted fall of society...on a Tuesday, no less...happens, will get you anywhere.

When zombies, Bigfoots, and Gnomes come looking to rape your wimmins and eat your food, Rich, I doubt they will take gold as a comparable pay out.

Neither will anyone else in the entire world. Just like fiat currency, pretending that a shiny rock has any inherent value at all is an entirely societal construct, too.

Is working for cash illegal? Last time I checked you could do that.

I have never sold Gold or silver, so I have never taken profits.

Any argument regarding Gold being a stupid investment is hogwash. If you purchase Gold and Silver you never really loose money no matter what the cost. Its a hedge against inflation because its real money and a store of wealth, everything is compared against it as the only true measure of value.

You will see, Gold and Silver will be the only measure of value left standing in the near future. When it is the only measure of value left, it has to account for a whole lot of wealth, all other physical assets will go down in value compared to Gold and silver which will go up. Its a fixed measure unlike Fiat which is an unlimited measure. Everything currently valued in FIAT needs to be revalued in Gold/SIlver. Most physical assets will go down 90 to 95%, including real estate and bonds.

I don't think most of you even have the ability to comprehend how high gold and silver will go. You will see allot of people get rich of silver, people made into millionaires by today's standards on modest investment. If you have 20 to 30 thousand in physical silver, you will have over a million dollars in purchasing power once things change over.

Don't believe me? I told you years ago to load up, if you didn't listen your phuckin loss.

There is going to be a time in the near future for a short window of 10 to 14 days, cash will be king and then worthless. If you have cash during that window you could get some real good deals. After that window is closed Gold and Silver will be king. If you have gold or silver coinage you will be able to get whatever you want, it will be a buyers market on everything. Its difficult to say how much you could get with a few ounces of silver, a decent car easy.

When everything collapses, where will you be getting this food to sell?

Since the collapse is imminent and soon, you need to have the stock pile in place right now because it won't be possible after the "event".

I can live off the grid here, and now that I've honed my skills by trapping a raccoon, I should be able to trap humans for protein. They appear to be much lower in IQ, plus many are slow and lazy.

I can just use a little shiny yellow metal and they'll come running.

Some species of humans come in for decoys, american flags... Put up a flag and sit in a blind, they will come running with gasoline and matches. The females are twice the size of males, dress in all black and have green or blue hair.

I have a stock pile of food. bout a years worth for 8 people, chickens and beef cattle down the road. My neighbor has 900 quarts of canned pork and 300 additional quarts of canned lard. He has enough food for 100 people 10 years, has 50 gallon drums of vacume sealed grains and dry goods, even dog food, after he fills the air tight drum he seals it and pumps in nitrogen.

he has 80+ 55 gallon drums of dry goods.

So are you going to be having that drink in a thimble or did you have some super tinny glasses made which will fit in your hand?

Being tinny must be a great gift, you can pass for a small child in the correct costume, make extra money just putting yourself on display as an oddity. You can teach yourself the art of being invisible, being tinny helps you stand in the shadows and not be seen, kinda like a mouse or a small insect, they can be in the open but nobody notices them becasue they are small.

Don't resort to Evo's "I know a guy" routine, you'll lose credibility.

You need to have the goods in hand, and hope they don't get taken from you now that you've told everyone about them.

I made the mistake of mentioning my cans of peas and corn. Now I need to hide them.

I have very good bird diversity at my house, 40 acres of mature 120 year old timber of varying habitats and tree species. We get allot of nesting. Tanangers, cedar wax wings even camp robbers where i have not seen them in the low lands before. Lots of owls as well 3 or 4 species. All kinds of woodpeckers even pilliated, saw 4 in one tree once.

I had a similar morning except when I looked at my overgrown back lawn, I said fuckit.

I did however chop up an invading berry bramble that was attracting the biggest, ugliest, most brazen raccoon I've ever seen. So I ran to the garage to get my hatchet so I could kill the MFer but then I recalled I loaned it to evo. Damn you, evo!

I believe what Rich is trying to say is that if the economy goes into full on
"Grapes of Wrath" mode, that physical gold may be used as a universal trading
medium.

Don't know why anybody would go buy the stuff...all ya gotta do is go dig it up. moose

I would trade ya for a couple antique guns? Sharps old reliable, millitary issue 45-70. Remington falling block buffalo gun 45-70, both are in 85 to 90%. The Remington has an aftermarket peep sight.

appraised 15 years ago, sharps was $3000, Remington $2500.

I've only seen Waxwings once. Back when I was a kid in Colorado, we had a standard ornamental crabapple tree in the yard. Fruits like the size of a blueberry. One winter, we had a flock come in one afternoon and strip that enter tree in about 15 minutes. It was pretty amazing. Only time I've ever seen them in person. Beautiful birds. Dad wouldn't let me shoot one for tying feathers.
