What is your area of expertise? What did you study in college? Are you a teacher, doctor, lawyer, accountant, engineer, business owner? Do you have a particular/unique skill set? Pretty diverse group on the DS. It would be cool to see what people know.

Engineering fields of various sorts. Mostly in mechanical, industrial, material and supply chain areas. I am branching out a bit into IT these days, but it's not really my wheel house.
Outside of work, I'm a nature boy.

So seriously,my talents are as follows: I am really good at building fishing rods. I take a minimalist approach and focus on performance rather than flash. My 6-12 NFC rod is the best performing light spoon rod I have ever fished. Blows my loomis factory rod away. Currently building a high performance trout rod for my friend Dan in Colorado. I can drift fish like a muhhhfukkahh. Just something I am good at,took lots of work and dedication and I still am learning.I can fish. I have an encyclopedic knowledge of music. Not just bands and songs but factoids and useless information. Such as,did you know Tony Iommi and John Bonham were close friends, and Iommi is also close with Brian May and Rick Wakeman? I have an ability to get people to open up to me,they feel comfortable, and often use me as a sounding board when there is a problem. I feel much gratitude when this happens, and never have the heart to tell them I have no clue what I am talking about, and I'm actually half crazy . I'm great at what I do for work,Painting Contractor, but it is simply a means to live life and do what I like. I'm also one funny mofo, and a salt of the earth guy, in person. I have had an insane past ,especially as a child and growing up,and I think it gives me certain insights that others don't have. I am a bit of an empath, and can read people easily, not so hypervigilant anymore,as I have done immense work on my issues and am in a good place these days. That's about as real a post as I may have ever made here on PP. Also,I tend to shy away from politics and world issues. I'm more concerned with how I treat the people around me,and I'm always trying to better myself. Except on the dark side .

If my back wasn't fvcked from all of my years of laboring, I would jump all over that WDFW. I have quite a bit of experience doing earthwork that goes along with concrete construction.
Did all of the flatwork for the towne center behind the annex on post. Merryweather landing project on the north fort. JBLM water treatment plant. Along with tons of residential and commercial builds.
I sure miss making that PW. Don't miss grinding my ass to the bone while trying to keep all of the guys busy and picking up the loose ends.

1. Degree in Marine Biology, worked as a biologist for a few years. 2. Lawyer, mainly did environmental/land use law, last gig was AAG representing WDFW 3. When I was practicing still I was agent to a few fine artists, as well, and partner in one artist's business. 4. I still design and sell fishing tackle, though I don't have time for much there any more. 5. Commercial building inspections, and licensed Electrical Administrator. 6. Framed just enough houses to make a mess of things when I work on my own houses, but I like doing it still. 7. I am in commercial real estate now, combined broker/lawyer/property manager...I have half a dozen buildings in downtown Seattle in my portfolio, about to add a few more in November. I still wear a lot of hats, I guess. Fish on... Todd

I have a degree in Fisheries Sciences from the UW. That and $4.50 still get's me a latte.
I started my IT career as a UW student because the computer labs paid twice as much as the libraries did. IE, more beer for me. That was 30+ years ago. I am all self-taught. No formal computing/IT training. I have forgotten way more about computers/IT than I currently know.
Fish didn't pay, but computers did. So, that's what I did and I'm an expert on all things IT.
I am an IT Director for a major environmental college in a 206'er area university.

I'm a college dropout...I realized my music major wasn't gonna pay the bills. So then I was a telecom engineer, then an instructional designer for telecom. Then I became a software engineer by osmosis while being a technical instructional designer. It totally pays the bills. And as a side gig I'm still a guitarist/singer in a rock band...at least I was until Covid put an end to all our booked gigs.

Coding is the great equalizer. One doesn't need to have a college degree to have a "logical" brain and get in to coding and make millions. I *hate* to code. I'm Seattle poor. I don't make the minimum 250K to make it above the Seattle Poverty Line. I also turned down an upper management position at Amazon because I didn't want to be owned by them....and work 100+ hours a week. Best decision I ever made. Money isn't everything in life......

I made that same decision wrt Amazon. My offers weren't upper management but I still wanted to avoid 100+ hours a week. During my interview with my current employer they actually said, "we don't want you working more than 8 hrs a day. We insist on a work/life balance." In return they get happy employees who aren't too burned out to do good work.

Good on you both. Amazon treats their employees like crap. How can you enjoy life working 16+ hours 6 days a week?

How can you enjoy life working 16+ hours 6 days a week? I don't work for the devil known as amazon, but i can tell you i work at least that for a couple months at a time, every single year. Luckily for me i love what i do and love working for the company i work for. It's still work, and I still have want to strangle everyone moments, but the over time pay, bonus checks, and extra vacation time when its over make it mostly all worth it at least for me. Find what you enjoy and go balls deep and immerse yourself in it from all sides and angles. Become a skillful master in your craft and it just get easier and more manageable. In my 16th harvest and been here 15 years.
