If you are looking to Cato for your "facts" about economics, you may as well be listening to Hannity or Tucker, they are just as accurate.
Washington State consistently ranks in the Top 10 for income (10th right now), and is in the bottom 1/3 or so for overall tax burden (29 out of 50 right now).
We are #10 in the country in GDP per capita, and #19 in economic growth (GDP).
When schit hits the fan nationally, we are consistently one of the last, if not the last state to feel the pain, and we are one of the first, if not the very first to begin the recovery, with a smaller dip in between the two than most anywhere else.
Why would we want to switch to a party that has proven since the 80s, both nationally and locally, that looting the taxpayers for the rich is their goal?
As with whining about economics by most who are ignorant of it, the whining comes from the Socialist counties that take far more tax dollars than they produce, all the while complaining about us 206ers who are paying their way.
Fish on...
Todd Good summary Todd. Neither the Democrats nor Republicans are my particular cup of tea, but the above pretty well covers why I end up voting for libtard Democrats more often than Republicans. Well those, and the social issues where control freak Rs want to ban abortions and keep gays in the closet, all the while transfering money from the middle class (me) to the richest 1%ers. I agree with Keith that Inslee is not a good financial steward. Hardly any politicians are, D or R. Rs used to stand for fiscal responsibility, but that train left the station long ago.

It seems obvious, but I must be missing something, that a socially "liberal" fiscally "conservative" candidate for local and statewide councils and legislatures should have a good chance of winning.
It's like we know that "defund" the Police won't work but rework them, fund them adequately, and fund the necessary social services, courts, and jails should. But no candidate seems to be able to hold those diverse thoughts in one brain.

Seems simple, we don't need to defund the police, but rather revisit the definition of qualified immunity. It needs to be a tool for accountability instead of the shield it's used for today.

We need more than that. We need to allow the police to police and not be social services folks. We need to not only fund mental health but actually deal with the problems so that they don't go crazy on the streets. We need to a actually do something about the homeless, and that includes providing safe places to live, treating drug abuse, preventing crime. It's a lot of things, no simple answers, but we have to fund answers and not just speak in sound bites.

So, Dimslee tweets this today: "Washington passed 100,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 today. Every choice you make right now matters." Right now? Oh, NOW you mean. So, the past 7 months of mask mandates, social distancing, business shutdowns, school closures....those didn't work, they just put people out of work and out of touch. But NOW we're going to make better choices? What choices? Typical Dimmer, just words but no answers or plan. What a leader.

If you're going to hammer Inslee on something at least pick a topic and angle that makes sense.
It mattered then and it matters now, don't follow the recommendations and pay the price, its that simple.
Lots of other stuff to go after him for, this one is weak.

But until you can get people to stop the at home gatherings as if it's a safe place, this pandemic will keep at it's pace or escalating. It's common for people to trust those they know most and let their guard down in these moments. Imho it's the number one factor to the case #'s... Keith

So, Governor Apple Maggot's campaign team has done a good job these past few weeks....they have kept the Dimmer quiet. Not much talking, no shooting basketballs and kept him away from fruit. The Dimmer will win today because our state is full of libtards, but hopefully he'll see how many of us voted for Culp and he'll realize that he needs to improve as governor. Maybe in time he can move up from #50 to #49 in the nation's ranking. But I doubt it. More than likely, he'll just speed up the rotation of the water in the toilet as our state continues to be flushed into the sewer.

Idaho isn't that far, why not move away from the libtards, move in next to bubba a burn a MAGA cross in your front yard.

That is a distinct possibility for us, as the property values continue to escalate in Central Wa. With the increase in property values, our property taxes have steadily increased as well. Mainly driven by the retiring implants from parts to the West and South (but not entirely, as there's increased industry, plus additional medical facilities as well). Subsequently, the surrounding areas of my 'burg are expanding to accommodate these new inhabitants.
This all adds up to "more people", in an area where the cities infrastructure was designed 40+ years ago. There have been some modernizations, but overall the towns are WAY behind in upgrading. With more people comes the problems that larger towns have; how to balance the budgets and where to distribute the monies (City/County), increased crime (unsure if there's an exponetional relationship?), and for me personally the loss of the "smaller town feel".
Now the last issue is totally subjective, as a lot of the folks moving in are doing so for this very reason. And within 2 years (once the kid is done with HS/AA) we may be moving away. It's all relative, eh? At least we'll do well on resale.

I was listing to a Dave Ramsey broad cast and was listing to someone talk about how cheap they could live. It was sad to realize that the taxes on my home, alone, were jsut slightly lower than the house payment they were making. I live in Pierce County, so a huge chunk of that is going to pay for mass transit that I will never use. Add in the 4th highest gas taxes in the nation for roads that are in adequate, and I too am thinking it might be time to move.

Yeah...many things to consider, I wonder how the people feel who are already where those leaving here will go? It's a good guess that the locals will generally resent the housing prices being driven up and that taking the general cost of living up with it, I 'spose it will be much like the local Washingtonians felt about the Cali invasion 20/30 years ago, staying ahead of the curve can be the goal but an unintentional consequence will be a deterioration of someone else's lifestyle. I am choosing to stick around and attempt to make my surroundings better, just bought 14 acres in Pierce Co and am planning to kill a few brain cells in dealing with county and building barns and a house and living happily ever after.... I guess we will see.
And that's where I'm torn, as I still love this state, or what I remember it once as. We've also thought of just moving North or NE a couple of hours. Family/friends are still prevalent, the property is considerably cheaper, and the towns are smaller but still have the required amenities for us. And I do feel for you guys in the highly taxed regions on the West side, especially when you don't get any direct benefit from some of the mandatory taxes (light rail). My monthly property taxes are right at what my 1st house payment was when I bought 27 years ago here (just P&I). Crazy! On the flip side, my current place with 4 acres has quadrupled in "street value" with today's insane real estate market. That's in 21 years of ownership, but who knows if a correction is looming? We've also looked at selling, and just moving to the other side of town and building our final place (1 acre of flat ground). Totally cost-prohibitive in the big picture, as once we'd sell the current and buy the ground and build the house, we'd just be trading dollars. So, if we stay, our current plan is to build a new house on the adjacent 2 acres. Once completed, then sell the house and the 2 acres it's on. The parcels are separate anyhow, so no paperwork is needed and the move would only be about 150 yards. Nice to have options at least.
