Can anyone provide any logic behind this? Keith

Oregon just decriminalized the possession of small amounts of any drug. That might impact where they are spending money and man power. But you'd have to have eaten psychedelic mushrooms 50 years ago to understand that.

The amount of money spent on the "War on Drugs" has been gigantic, and the result has been an abject and total failure.
Decriminalizing small amounts of drugs will allow cops and courts to allocate time and energy to crimes and criminals that actually matter, and that may actually make a difference.
I'm all for it.

Agree to disagree here. Decriminalizing small amounts of drugs doesn't solve the problem nor does it justify a smaller police department Setting stricter laws, bounties or very sizable rewards could lead you to those that are supplying the drugs. Chop the head off the problem and the problem fizzles. But we can discuss this again some day, when nothing changes except for crime rates going up... Keith

Decriminalizing something that is criminal is an interesting concept right up there with keeping native steelhead.

"Those supplying the drugs" aren't the ones committing crimes that are decriminalized.

Todd But "if" you couldn't get the drugs, what then? Nothing's impossible Todd. It's all about how strict one wants to be.... They've increased Drinking and driving laws and penalties. Has it or has it not worked in your honest opinion? Keith

Not really. Improved vehicle safety has probably saved more lives than stricter drinking and driving laws or penalties have. Fish on... Todd

Ask yourself, what's the breaking point... How much would it have to cost you in time in jail, money, etc to pass on that drink knowing you were going to get behind a wheel? Keith

They didn't, and shouldn't de-criminalize drug suppliers, and stopping wasting time busting kids with joints and whatnot will give them more resources to go after the drug suppliers, where you can actually make a difference. That is the point entirely. Fish on... Todd

Drunks are going to drink, and drunks are going to drink and drive...the penalties don't matter, that's why upping the penalties hasn't done anything to reduce the problem.

Todd I'm not too certain about that, I have a friend that after his 3rd DUI literally couldn't afford it anymore, he was finally backed into a corner to quit... But to each is their own I guess. Keith

There is distinction between drug dealers and drug users. They should not be treated the same. Drug dealers could be treated through a criminal justice approach vs the latter should definitely be treated as a medical/social problem through treatment. Could the criminal justice approach work? Yes, but it clearly isn’t a consistently valid way of addressing that type of problem.

Provide pure stuff with some fentanyl. If you insist on cleaning the problem up then add some bleach.

The thing not be discussed is the fact that often these small charges are utilized to solve a problem that can be harder to deal with. Grandson won't leave grandma alone. "Hey, here's some meth in his pocket. Lets just take him in for that."
There was a property I passed almost every day that was an obvious drug house. One day code enforcement came by and, wow, they found an active lab. Police often use round about ways to solve a problem. This can create problems if abused, but taking away the tool can cause just as many problems.

It’s a good thing that Portland is just one libtarded city in the world. I’m so sick of that place getting so much media attention. Let Portland do Portland and don’t use it as an example of everythimg that is wrong with America. It’s just one city that went to [Bleeeeep!] and it won’t be the last.
