Kayakers think that way because they are kayakers.

That fkn guy was underwater with that thing!!!! Stupid. By yourself in an alligator infested swamp is just asking for about 50 kinds of trouble. If he had been killed it would have been due to his stupidity.

Kayakers, SUPers et cetera are often not true boaters. They see these craft as a cheap easy way to get on the water, but lack the experience to know the dangers.

Don't even tell us you wouldn't have gone all Steve Irwin on that croc in your yoot!

If you can kill a bear with your bare hands, this little lizard shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Oh, and can I be the film guy when you decide to do this? Please do not stab me while on location and use me for bait. Again. Not cool.

I don't do southern swamps. Been in them and don't like them....at all.

Between the deadly alligators, killer snakes, scary spiders, nasty foliage, dickmelting diseases AND toothless hillbillies, I want no part of it. Next.

Nothing like seeing off shore yaker trollers out in mid-channel fishing inside the fleet under heavy fog. Not so bright. I'm half expecting to come across an empty yak one of these days. Hey! Free kayak.

I was channel surfing a few years back and saw that Deliverance was on. The "I sh!t you not" description of the movie was:

"Businessmen go on bad canoe trip."

I don't understand the kayak fishing craze. I was into it about 15 years ago. We would go night fishing for rockfish outside the jetty here. Such a blast. But they are uncomfortable to fish in for long periods, and the amount of money that these people throw down I think, why not just buy a proper boat? It's so much more effective and safe, and comforatble.

As for hillbillies,Nick, those people aren't just relegated to the swamps,

This is true - but for me, it's about the combination of life threatening factors in totality.

I can deal with a hillbilly out in a cornfield, but not a hillbilly and an alligator out in a corn field. I looked at the official numbers and there aren't many gators out in cornfields. This logic is sound.

I won't argue with that. Australia is a place you don't ever want to get caught in a survival situation though. EVERYTHING there will kill you.

No deal, you're the best gator bait I know

Not to be that pedantic arsehole, but its an alligator, not a croc. You can tell that by the way that it is.

Gators are actually pretty chill and agreeable for a large killing machine type animal. Crocs on the other hand, have no chill and do not agree.

No but I had a beaver last year cruising next to me. That was fun. Not many people know there is a small beaver population here in central California. There is a large population of thots though.

I was thinking about getting a fishing kayak because we bought a travel trailer which nixes towing the boat. If its within a few hundred miles of home, I make two trips, one with the trailer then I go back and get the boat. Not a big deal as we usually stay somewhere for a month or more. However, looking at taking much longer trips and figured a Kayak on top of the truck would work. Now, I am wondering if I would be better off with a pontoon boat or maybe I should get both and take whatever might work best along our route.

I will be staying out of croc and snake infested water, unless the fishing is really, really good.

Hobies with the peddle drive are a lot of fun. Spendy, but great for hands free fishing and putting miles on the water. Link Here

My wife and I used the Hobie peddle kayaks in some marshes south of New Orleans last year. Caught our first ever redfish while using them. Wish they had brakes though. I'd peddle toward some nervous fishy water, make my first cast, but coast in too close by the time I made my second.

There is a hobi kayak fisher that fishes bass in the same spots I fish from my 17’ Jon. It looks like a great way for one angler to fish like that. I want to try it but definitely am keeping my boat. It was less cost than most of the hobi kayaks.

I've flats and bay fished out of one several times in the Keys (base model, no elecs, just one rod holder). They are an amazing platform, but the top model, fully loaded with elecs and rigging is like....$9 or 10 grand. Fvck that. 10 grand can buy a lot of real boat out here. The only way I'd consider owning one, is if I literally lived on the beach with excellent fishing waters right there out in front. Some of those offshore big game Yakers are pretty insane. Crazy videos.

I was looking at the hobies at the boat show last year. They are a bit pricey. But, I am also thinking about getting a small Jon boat and stick an electric motor on it. It would also be useful for some of the small lakes around here. I am getting old, or maybe I already am, so I will probably invest in an electric hoist to get whatever I get on the top of my truck canopy. Sold the drift boat last year and put the money away for this next phase with the trailer.

I have three kayaks, they never get used. My drift boat is on the beach or tied to a bouy all year. I can row or use the electric motor as needed, I like to row though.

I frequently fish from the shore, it can be easier and faster to catch fish.

They have their places. Silently slipping through Mangrove swamps after Bone and Snook. Drifting into a remote flat after spooky Tarpon. Hovering over near shore Hali grounds and Ling hidey holes. Trolling for snappy bay Coho. Pond trout.

But for that money, just get a real boat. Hobie corned the market with that paddle drive. Nothing else has it, which forces hand paddling that a) sucks for fishing, especially trolling at speed and b) wears you out a lot quicker. Legs and paddles drives open up so much more water.

All this talk about kayaks is making my back hurt.

Years ago.....and this is no [Bleeeeep!], we drug an old 2 man sea kayak up to Eagle Gorge and stashed it, used to troll the res with little flatfish late evenings after the patrols went home for big trout... and hope we never got caught, we never did...but the trout did.

That kayak was a miserable no good back killing MF'er though I suspect it was worth it at the time, then again, I'd think twice before I headed up the tracks to try it again, pretty sure when they raised the damn dam it floated off to greener pastures.

Glad I done some things when I did.

That paddle drive was invented for old broads like you.

A good strengthening exercise for those fragile hips.

So if I use my kayak out front I'll be able to find some mangrove swamps, snook, bonefish, tarpon, halibut and lings?

Could be true, but I have yet to try one.....hell I haven't even "hunted" from a tree stand yet, wink Seems you damn kids are always looking for your nappy time while wondering how us old feller's do it.

If you're worried about your fragile hips might I suggest putting on some mountain miles with a 60lb pack, hell, you and shevo could hang...

No way could I ever carry as much as Evo. Can you imagine how strong his hips are carrying all that extra weight? And then add a 60 pound pack on top it? No way.

Understandably for you, it would be hard to grip a paddle, when you have fists full of ankle. Some spiders are scarier than gators.
