There is a hobi kayak fisher that fishes bass in the same spots I fish from my 17’ Jon. It looks like a great way for one angler to fish like that. I want to try it but definitely am keeping my boat. It was less cost than most of the hobi kayaks.

rofl

I've flats and bay fished out of one several times in the Keys (base model, no elecs, just one rod holder). They are an amazing platform, but the top model, fully loaded with elecs and rigging is like....$9 or 10 grand. Fvck that. 10 grand can buy a lot of real boat out here. The only way I'd consider owning one, is if I literally lived on the beach with excellent fishing waters right there out in front. Some of those offshore big game Yakers are pretty insane. Crazy videos.

I was looking at the hobies at the boat show last year. They are a bit pricey. But, I am also thinking about getting a small Jon boat and stick an electric motor on it. It would also be useful for some of the small lakes around here. I am getting old, or maybe I already am, so I will probably invest in an electric hoist to get whatever I get on the top of my truck canopy. Sold the drift boat last year and put the money away for this next phase with the trailer.

I have three kayaks, they never get used. My drift boat is on the beach or tied to a bouy all year. I can row or use the electric motor as needed, I like to row though.

I frequently fish from the shore, it can be easier and faster to catch fish.

They have their places. Silently slipping through Mangrove swamps after Bone and Snook. Drifting into a remote flat after spooky Tarpon. Hovering over near shore Hali grounds and Ling hidey holes. Trolling for snappy bay Coho. Pond trout.

But for that money, just get a real boat. Hobie corned the market with that paddle drive. Nothing else has it, which forces hand paddling that a) sucks for fishing, especially trolling at speed and b) wears you out a lot quicker. Legs and paddles drives open up so much more water.

Lol you should get some butt cream for all that hurt. Your obsession with my weight is odd and pretty gay.

All this talk about kayaks is making my back hurt.

Years ago.....and this is no [Bleeeeep!], we drug an old 2 man sea kayak up to Eagle Gorge and stashed it, used to troll the res with little flatfish late evenings after the patrols went home for big trout... and hope we never got caught, we never did...but the trout did.

That kayak was a miserable no good back killing MF'er though I suspect it was worth it at the time, then again, I'd think twice before I headed up the tracks to try it again, pretty sure when they raised the damn dam it floated off to greener pastures.

Glad I done some things when I did.

That paddle drive was invented for old broads like you.

A good strengthening exercise for those fragile hips.

So if I use my kayak out front I'll be able to find some mangrove swamps, snook, bonefish, tarpon, halibut and lings?

Could be true, but I have yet to try one.....hell I haven't even "hunted" from a tree stand yet, wink Seems you damn kids are always looking for your nappy time while wondering how us old feller's do it.

If you're worried about your fragile hips might I suggest putting on some mountain miles with a 60lb pack, hell, you and shevo could hang...

because...

fuckit.

No way could I ever carry as much as Evo. Can you imagine how strong his hips are carrying all that extra weight? And then add a 60 pound pack on top it? No way.

Understandably for you, it would be hard to grip a paddle, when you have fists full of ankle. Some spiders are scarier than gators.
