Usually the President at least pretends that pardons and commutations are for some travesty of justice, or someone who has "turned over a new leaf", or some such nonsense...Trump's not even pretending.

Christmas came early for four convicted war criminals, a handful of his Administration members who pled guilty to lying to the FBI to protect Trump, and corrupt GOP politicians who were removed from office and jailed for stealing campaign funds.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the four convicted war criminals worked for Blackwater, which is owned by Betsy DeVoss's brother.

I'm sure it's also a coincidence that the corrupt politicians were the first two to come out in favor of Trump's candidacy back in 2015.

Anyways...business as usual in the most corrupt Administration ever...even Nixon had enough shame to leave his Administration's criminals, Halderman and Liddy, in jail, and they begged for pardons.

I read an interesting aspect of Pardons, especially pre-pardons like Nixon who was not actually convicted, that I was unaware of is that, for the pardoned ones, they lose Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination as they can't be convicted.

So, DT has to think hard about what some of his potential pardons might say under oath. That is, say about him.

That is true, CM, and could potentially be of concern to him, especially the ones that lied about their contacts with the Russians when they were shopping Hillary Clinton dirt.

Trump is already an unnamed co-conspirator in the case...but the answer to "did you conspire with Donald Trump?" can't be waived off by 5th Amendment concerns, since none exist if you've been pardoned for the crime already.

In light of Trump's pardons, Biden should pardon Cohen soon after taking office. The State of New York will need Cohen's testimony in cases against Trump and his corrupt cronies. Giving him a pardon would take away the defense's argument that Cohen is lying in hopes of getting a pardon. The big question is, how are you ever going to seat a jury without a Trump crazy holdout on it?

Not that anyone who isn't a complete and utter idiot doesn't already know it...but what does it say about your Administration when you have to pardon half of it before Christmas?

So somebody could commit crimes against Trump, his family, or supporters and be pardoned by Biden?

I doubt he would do so but this pardon stuff seems so messed up.

If loyalty counts, Rich is a shoe in. If stupid was a crime Rich is a career criminal and in spite of all of the evidence saying "don't do it," Rich has relentlessly followed the lead lemming, pardon or no pardon I can't see too many being disappointed when the whole pack of rats runs off the cliff.
