I think it would be real hard to argue that the office that shot her, in particular, was afraid for his life, from her. That generally is the argument used to justify a shooting. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in the US there are well over 254,000,000 citizens over the age of 16 making contact with with law enforcement during the course of a year. There are around 1,000 people who die yearly at the hands of law enforcement. That represents a 0.00000394% chance you will die at the hands of a police officer this year. Let’s adjust in an overly conservative way specifically for BIPOC (Black,Indigenous and people of color) by decreasing the number of them who encounter LE and over represent them in deaths. That makes 100,000,000 BIPOC citizens and 600 deaths specifically for BIPOC. This represents a 0.000006% chance a black, indigenous, or person of color dies at the hands of police every year.

It certainly doesn’t fit the narrative of a pervasive problem of cops out there randomly killing black people, or anyone for that matter. That’s not to say there isn’t room for improvements with law-enforcement, or that systemic racism doesn’t exist (it does) but from a statistical standpoint, shootings and deaths are outliers but watching too much mainstream media will convince you otherwise. It just happens that more things are caught on video these days and is overplayed and spun in the media deliberately to create tension, anger, and the belief this is a pervasive problem. People’s confirmation bias then take over and they begin to analyze through a skewed lens with no ability to be objective and consider every death as an injustice regardless of what the situation is. Police bad, criminals victim, always.

Seriously Keith? A short time earlier there was a BLM march at the Capitol, and it was well attended by thousands of police and National Guard. If the Jan. 6 crowd had been black and attacked the Capitol the way the insurrectionist mob did, there would have been both police and NG present, and they would have shot many and been hailed by the predominately white Congress as heroes for saving them and the democratic electoral process. Unfortunately, in this country race makes a huge difference in police response.

First things first Krijack. The media are in for profit businesses. They changed in the 1970s when news departments had been operated at a financial loss to having to also make a profit. That's when they began hiring sexy looking women in the news departments. And then the Fairness Doctrine was repealed in 1987 (thanks Reagan!), and news media became entertainment, first and foremost. Objective reporting hasn't been a media requirement for over 30 years, making the likes of Rush Limbaugh possible.

Now, back to the unarmed woman. While tragic that she lost her life, she was the "tip of the spear" among the mob trying to break into the House Chamber. The Capitol police had the job of protecting the people inside. If the mob had gotten in, they couldn't have protected the people as they were supposed to. After shooting the first person trying to get in, the rest of the mob lost much of its eagerness. Again, play stupid games, like directly attacking the Capitol of the US, and winning a stupid prize is darn near a foregone conclusion.

Please, can we be clear that both left and right wing idiots are sowning discord and dividing our nation. It ain't just the left, and it ain't just the right. But idiots all I'll agree with.

Evo, if you worked half as hard at a job as you do at being a dipsh!t, you might actually achieve something with your life. Breaking and entering the House Chamber in the US Capitol with a mob of hundreds or thousdands intent on stopping the lawful electoral process is more likely than not to be met with deadly force. I think the real miracle is that so few were injured and killed that day.

As for B&E into private homes, the Castle Doctrine applies in WA state. If you are in danger for your life or have reasonable belief that your life or the lives of other residents are in danger, you may exercise lethal force to stop the threat, bunk weed and TV remotes notwithstanding. It's not always possible to know if the perp has a gun or other weapon, and fractions of seconds count.

It's this mindset that's the problem with it all, I'm not convinced color is the issue that get's people shot, it's their actions and inability to follow orders....
