Have to disagree. Strongly. Both establishments are excellent sources of information on what is happening on the Kalama River and both provide high quality bait and tackle. Neither have an interest in lying about the fish or where they're catching them. Quite the contrary, they both have a vested interest in providing good information to their customers. They know better than anyone that if anglers don't catch fish, they may not be back. And they won't get repeat business.
Also, no two stores have the same prices on fishing tackle. No sense in slamming Pritchard's because of their pricing. As any consumer, it's your right to buy from whomever gives you the best deal. From my experience, sometimes it's Pritchard's and sometime it's Kalama River B&T.
Do not underestimate the difficulty of operating a profitable bait and tackle store. I think we should give both places a fair shake since they are both run by hard working sport anglers like you and I.
Just my .02.

Hey Catcher1. Are you still piss*d at your ex girlfriend? Running a tackle shop is a thankless job, and lots of work. Don't worry, the crappy ones go out of business shortly after opening.

The Kalama is not my home river. In fact its about as far away as I'm willing to drive on a semi-regular basis to get some good fishing in. In that sense, its kinda tough not having the local flavor and still consistently catch fish.
Pritchards has always provided me with good information when I'm down in that neck of the woods. They open up pretty early, so are available before I start, and they're certainly conveniently located to drop by mid-trip to find out where the days successes have been. There not only knowledgeable, but others trust them so that there's a lot of traffic going in and out. Traffic means pretty good information to share. Its one of the best destination shops I've ever frequented.
Geez, why sandbag a place, when nobody asked for your opinion to begin with? You must still be pretty pissed off at your ex. Even so, its not an excuse.

I've been fishing the Kalama for going on 15 years now, and Prichard's just seems to be the place I go. Probably because I usually fish the canyon, which is closer to Prichard's, and that I used to camp on the upper river, making them the closest store.
Also, since it's a two and a half hour drive for me to get there, I usually call the night before to get some reports. If fishing stinks, they tell me. If it's good, they don't need to tell me the holes, I already know them, but they do give me the general area.
No complaints from me, just thanks.
Fish on...
Todd

Why be P.O.'d at the world over a gal? Find a private place, rub one out manually, put on your happy pants and get back to fishin. It's all good.

After many years of service Prichards has earned a good reputation among anglers in that area. They have helped our family procure high quality tackle, including GLoomis rods; and have also given me the advice to assist us in catching approximately 30 fish.
I am sure we are aware that a good deal of effort must go into earning a living in the volatile sport fishing industry, so I do not want to see the reputation of the Prichards store tarnished.

prichards always gives me the same story. they are getting a few in the canyon. i dont like the store or the owners. i have called kalama tackle and have been told about a hotter river. their tackle selection isn't much but good reports will kept me coming there to take a pic and buy some snacks for the trip home. competeters keeps each other honest.

Used to fish the Kalama back in the days when Pritchard himself was running the store. Always got the best info from him. Sadly its not the same since he passed on. And now days there are a ton more people than there used to be. I dont fish the Kalama much any more, and its sad to hear things havent got any better as far as info goes.
