Lets try something that nobody has seem to come up with in the last 2 months. Has anybody actually had a good day steelheadin this winter ???????? We all seem to be wishin for more fish and better fishin, somebody has to be catching something. Lets hear about your best day this winter to date. You don't need to include location or anything like that , just how many fishes. This outta be good.....

My best day so far was the day I decided to stay home and watch football. At least I caught a buzz.

I haven't caught Jack! But I've only been out four times, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

Christmas Eve, down there with my dad and a nice couple. My first cast, fish on, fish off. A couple more casts, fish on, fish off. Within 20 minutes I had 5 on and landed one. Then fished for 3 more hours to get the 2 person's limit of chrome bright hatchery steelies. If that nice couple visits this board, you know where I am talking about.
Same thing on the New Year then it gotten dead.

Can't give an exact number ... 'because we frankly lost count. We hooked somewhere between 25-30. Had a couple of other days in the mid-teens a week or two earlier. Wish I could borrow from those days on a few of the ones we've seen in recent weeks

Well it had to be last week, the week started out with a bang and ended with a bust... Five in the boat twice and then down hill as the river dropped and cleared, But turned back a big beautiful nate, That will be replicated..

Well it has been too bad of a year, I'm used to fishing in muddy water like last year. My best day was the 1/15, I hooked one native the was easily 20#, he headed back to the salt in a hurry and straightened my jig in the process. Ten minutes later I landed a 8# Brat. 1/7 I hooked two nice fish but forgot to set the hook twice, I got the monkey off my back with the 8#.

Set the Hook Twice!!!

My best day this year was actually on the green. One of only two times in 4 years of fishing the green that I limited out. My friend caught a ten pound native and I limited out on two hatchery steelies. This was during christmas break so this is nothing but a memory. Oh well

Many years ago before the Indians netted the rivers here on the coast my brother and I caught over 50 spawners and 4 good ones in 1 day. Many doubles for the two of us. Could have caught more but when we finally got the last keeper we were pretty tired on catching them.
There also was a good run of 20 pounders that went to a tributary of a river on the coast and they are all netted out now. Man, what a shame.
Now, on the positive side I've had several days this year with 10-12 bite days. Boy, that is fun. fp

Mid November...19 fish to the boat...My buddy nailed a 21 pound native. Gladly tipped the guide. Eggs under floats on a Peninsula river that begins with Q!

I guess I should include my best day, two saturdays ago 4 hookups three to the bank, let a native buck of 15-16lbs back to swim again (coastal river from the bank).

No tales of 20lb'rs or multi hook up days here, but my best day was yesterday. MY FIRST STEELIE!! Yeah, it was only 6.5 lbs but finally I hooked up. What a sense of gratification it was gettin that buck on the beach....they really do exist. Hopefully the floodgates are open now....probably not, but feels great just the same.

Been out on seven float trips this year and all I got was one hooked fish on 12/26/00.

Grim!! Hopefully the natives will have a better showing.

Multiple hook-up days are great! But last week I hooked a small native hen, around 9-10 lbs., and handed the rod off to a newby steelheader (his first trip). Watching the look on his face with his eyes WIDE open makes the whole trip. I must be getting old or something because I get more of a rush getting someone their first fish than catching one myself.

Two days ago, total solitude hooked and lost a nice fish on a fly within an hour or so of starting. First winter trip but a good start with the fly.
