Lets try something that nobody has seem to come up with in the last 2 months. Has anybody actually had a good day steelheadin this winter ???????? We all seem to be wishin for more fish and better fishin, somebody has to be catching something. Lets hear about your best day this winter to date. You don't need to include location or anything like that , just how many fishes. This outta be good.....

My best day so far was the day I decided to stay home and watch football. At least I caught a buzz.

Christmas Eve, down there with my dad and a nice couple. My first cast, fish on, fish off. A couple more casts, fish on, fish off. Within 20 minutes I had 5 on and landed one. Then fished for 3 more hours to get the 2 person's limit of chrome bright hatchery steelies. If that nice couple visits this board, you know where I am talking about. Same thing on the New Year then it gotten dead.

Well it had to be last week, the week started out with a bang and ended with a bust... Five in the boat twice and then down hill as the river dropped and cleared, But turned back a big beautiful nate, That will be replicated..

Well it has been too bad of a year, I'm used to fishing in muddy water like last year. My best day was the 1/15, I hooked one native the was easily 20#, he headed back to the salt in a hurry and straightened my jig in the process. Ten minutes later I landed a 8# Brat. 1/7 I hooked two nice fish but forgot to set the hook twice, I got the monkey off my back with the 8#.
Set the Hook Twice!!!

My best day this year was actually on the green. One of only two times in 4 years of fishing the green that I limited out. My friend caught a ten pound native and I limited out on two hatchery steelies. This was during christmas break so this is nothing but a memory. Oh well

No tales of 20lb'rs or multi hook up days here, but my best day was yesterday. MY FIRST STEELIE!! Yeah, it was only 6.5 lbs but finally I hooked up. What a sense of gratification it was gettin that buck on the beach....they really do exist. Hopefully the floodgates are open now....probably not, but feels great just the same. Tight lines, bent rods Chris

Multiple hook-up days are great! But last week I hooked a small native hen, around 9-10 lbs., and handed the rod off to a newby steelheader (his first trip). Watching the look on his face with his eyes WIDE open makes the whole trip. I must be getting old or something because I get more of a rush getting someone their first fish than catching one myself.

Two days ago, total solitude hooked and lost a nice fish on a fly within an hour or so of starting. First winter trip but a good start with the fly.

A double digit day in early December, as well as not getting skunked for all of December.
January - well, that's a different story!

The whole month of December was good to me and my buddys, except Brian because he brougt bananas Seven float trips in December, locally might I add, yielded 27 hookups. Then wouldn't you know it, the fish Gods gave up on me and I finally came back blank when I got to the ramp between first and second week of January. I even crackered off two steelies last weekend. My luck has not been too great so far at all in 2001, at least as far as fishing goes, but I have been very consistent with the ladies so far this year! And yes Parker, strippers need love too!!

Havent had any days to write home about this year. Was slow but consistant for me untill the 14th of this month, than the bottom droped out. I think my best day this year was in late december I think I hooked 5 and landed 3. My last five times out all I got was on steelie Jack about 20in. Havent had a bite in over a week. I think Im going to take a vacation from fishing for a couple of weeks, see if the action is better in mid Feb.
Who am I kidding, I live accross the street form the Duc and ushually when I say Im going to take a week off it only lasts till tomorrow.

Yes, I actually have had some great days this year , but as Bob was saying I wish I could have spread those numbers out over the whole season. I was on cook creek on my birthday, which was opening day and My partner and I quit counting at 40 fish. best steelhead day of my life. I caught 2 hatchery fish in December on the coast one which was 18 lbs 10 oz and one that was almost 17 lbs. I have been doing alot of exploring and been lucky enough to get the onesy and twosy's while learning new water, which dosen't happen to often. But It has had it's slow times, One river I frequent I have usaully caught a good 20 to 30 out of by now has given me a big 3, wow it is terrible, I hope things turn around. For all of us because it looks bad now. Peace Superfly
