I recently recieved some complimentary spools of the new Maxima Line. I spent the last 2 days fishing the line with one of the field testers from Rainbow Jigs. We had the fortune of hooking a number of steelhead on the line and it's the best line of used for jig fishing. It has all the good properties of a Maxima line(tough as nails with good knot strength) as well as having low memory, very low stretch, being nearly invisible under water and extremely thin diameter for the pound test. I've been running 12 pound in low clear water conditions and the fish don't seem to care. I'd recommend it to anybody looking for a good line for spinning reels!

Jigman,

What size spinning reel are you able to run that #12 on? I'd be very impressed if it was on a 2000 series shimano. I've been running #10 gammi line on my 2000 shimano. I like the limpness and small diameter but it seems to have way to much stretch, so this might be the line I'm looking for.
Thanks for the report!

I use the 2000 series Symetre from Shimano. The line is thin and has very little stretch, sets a mean hook!

The line is clear and has the same abrasion resistance as the other Maxima lines. The rep said it is nearly as invisible as flourocarbon.

fishing partner tried both 12 and 15 teen on his shimano 2000. Din't like the 15lb. at all! likes the 12 and had been using gamakatsu. Sold me the 15 for my bait caster, I like a lot. Hooked and released a 20# no problems.

Where did you get the perfexion line? I've seen the adds in magazines, but havn't seen the line at any tackle stores or at any on-line stores. I was just looking at the Maxima web site and didn't see anything about it either. I did see some other Maxima line I have never heard of, marine green. http://www.maxima-lines.com/lineFrame.htm

I'm told that Sportco in Fife will be carrying the line but I'm not sure if they have it yet, you may want to call before heading that way.

Hey, I wanna see this model! What is STS Magazine? As far as Maxima, I might try this new stuff. I'm using spiderwire on my Shimano Slade 4000 now, because the Ultragreen was too thick (15lb). I couldn't cast worth crap, and it tended to get messed up on the reel. But, I don't really like spiderwire that much either. Any advice will be appreciated, as I am still a rookie. Although I've yet to hit a steelhead, I really enjoy using Marabou jigs, and only have the spinning reel. Anything that is designed for that type of fishing is probably worth me looking into.

STS is Salmon Trout Steelheader Magazine, a must read for Steelhead fisherman. Give the line a try, you'll like it....12 pound test would be a good start.

great line. we tried it for the first time this weekend. we landed several fish and the only problem we had is with knots. you gotta really make sure you have them wet and just snug them up. being a thin line a small amount of damage goes along way. I got mine from Sportco about 2 weeks ago we used 12# on one of the Curados and I was really happy with the way it cast. it's like casting 8# but with 12# strength!!!!! very limber line and easy to see above the water but nearly as transparent as flourocarbon under water!!!!! and it has less stretch so you get a much better idea of whats going on.

I am thinking of trying it on my spinning rod soon. already got it on the extra spool just gotta take time to change it over.

It is a tourney line so when it says 12# test that is what it is, Both ultra green and chameleon at 12# test break at 14-15 lbs so don't be upset if you think it is weaker then the others

I spoke to the Maxima rep last night at the Northwest Outdoorsman Show here in Portland. He said it has less stretch and less abrasion resistance than Ultragreen. I am sticking with UG. He also said that UG and Crystal Ivory are the same line, just different colors. He claims that Crystal Ivory is just as invisible as UG underwater and cost less. I am convinced that UG is nearly invisible to fish. The only thing that may sway people from UG is the stretch. I still have not found anything that is better for me.

One line you should all try for spinning reels is the Stren Magna-thin. I've tried them all but the new maxima perfection or whatever its called and with the magna-thin I use the 12# with 8 pound ultragreen leaders. It's also the diameter of 8# test. I use it on my Loomis 1141 and you can pull so hard you are bending at the bottom of the cork. A 8# ultragreen leader will break before it does also, and not to mention it does cast like a dream on spinning reels. Of all the lines I have tried it has the least memory of all. I use it in the moss green color, and have never had a problem with it spooking fish. I will tell you one thing for sure and that is I use one thing on my levelwinds and that is maxima ultragreen because it certainly ranks the best in my mind for the levelwinds.

My .02 on the subject. Tried the Maxima Ultragreen for the first time yesterday, spooled both my baitcaster and spinning reel with 12 lb. Works great on the baitcaster but I can't change it out fast enough off of the spinning reel, it did nothing but explode constantly off the reel. The guys I was fishing with said that it does not work well in cold weather, stays to stiff. Glad to see this thread, working on the bobber and jigs for steelhead and am looking for a line that will cast and mend well. Does anyone use or have experiance with Trilene XL on a spinner???
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

I love the ultra-green for my baitcasters but the perfexion is the way to go on a spinning reel.
