I was with the guy that cohoangler saw with the fish. I only remembered that that was you after we got back up to the parking area above the deadline. You probably don't remember me. We met at a trash pickup several months back.
We caught that fish very early, before the sun got all the way up. There was at least one other in the run we were fishing, but it never gave either of us a sniff once it got fully light. We got the same treatment at another hole, where we saw fish, but they avoided our offerings like the plague.
I was on the river on Saturday. The water was slightly up from what it was on Monday, with maybe just a touch more color. The fish were much less skittish and much more willing to play during the morning, but started getting shy in the late afternoon, just like they were on Monday. I'm thinking, if it stays like this, I'll bring my summer game (such as it is) this weekend. Very, very light and small.
The good thing on both days is that we spotted quite a few fish both in and below the canyon. Many of them were tagged, but many of them looked bright, also.
Kalamabama, if you read this, I heard you've already had a Spring experience! E-mail me at tdodge@rhhk.com, I'd love to hear the details and I'd be glad to exchange more details on where I saw good concentrations of fish over the weekend. Also note that you have a trash pick-up in mind. Keep me posted.
