What types of line does everyone use? I really like that Izorline stuff, in the 12lb. strength for saltwater, and 6lb. for fresh. What do you guys think?

Izorline is good on spinning reels.I,d have to say maxima ug is the best but i would,nt go over 10# test on spinning gear.Although i have,nt tried my maxima perfexion yet.

Maxima UG is hard to beat.

I have landed many 25#+ fish while mooching with 10# UG, damn that stuff is tough. Literally, I have horsed 30# salmon on 10# UG. I could never use anything else, although it is a terible spinning line. Why would you use a spininng reel anyways, Go UG!

I can buy a 500 yard spool of ANDE green at Swansons in aberdeen for 5.99 for this price I feel it is the best line at the best price.
just my 2 cents and I haven't had a problem I used to use maxima but the price has really gone up. I cant justify paying it.

"Most bang for the buck"......has to be Ande..Have used Ande, green, for 25+ yrs. for "leader material". In the past 4 yrs. have used Ande "Envy", 10 and 12 pound, for most of my salmon and winter steelheading. I can afford Maxima but why????
In 10 and 12 pound, Ande works great on spinning reels.

Maxima UG all the way! I have used Izor for leader material and it seems to hold up well when your not nicking the crap out of it. I use it mostly trolling or mooching-but the stuff just doesnt last like Maxima. BTW-does anyone know where to get that new Maxima line in Portland? What is it perfexion? i want to try that too. Thanks.

I've been an Izorline fan for years. HOWEVER, I recently found out it is actually made by Sufix, which you can get from e-angler for 5.99 plus shipping for a 1/4 pound spool. I'm waiting for my order to arrive.
P.S. If the local ForestBay guys were to sell it, I'd buy local first (even if it still online).
On plug rods though, I run Maxima FiberGlow.

When I'm consistently fishing, say, 3-4 days a week, I like to always have fresh line, changing out the reels I've been using at least once every three trips. At $10 a spool, it gets pretty pricy. I've always used Maxima Ultragreen for my casting reels.

However, due to the high cost of changing a $10 spool once a week for three or four reels, I wanted to experiment.

At GI Joe's in Issaquah I noticed they carry a type of Maxima called Ivory Gold, or something like that. It comes in 1/2 pound spools for $9.99. For 10# line that correlates to about 1000 yards.

I tried it out, and was pleasantly surprised. I've been using it for going on a year now and I use it for both mainlines and leader material. Its toughness seems good, though perhaps not as tough as UG. It doesn't have much stretch, which is good, and it's a light gold in color, which seems to be fairly visible above water and fairly invisible under.

It's on all my reels now.

I tried it out because it was so inexpensive, but I've stuck with it because I like it. A ten dollar spool gives me about four reels full of line, but could be more for others as I use 5500's, which have a high line capacity, and I like to refill the entire spool rather than pile 100 yards on top of my old line.

GI Joe's in Issaquah is the only place I've seen it, though.

I primarily float/jig fish, and for that, I use 14 lb flame green Berkley Fireline. I really like it.

For salmon and steelhead nothing but Maxima UG for me, as for bottomfishing, I like both Tuff-line and Powerpro. A few years back I had a guest hook a 57lbs. king on 8lbs. Max UG, fought the fish for 6 hours and about 2 miles before bringing it the net, been a firm believer ever since.

This is my fist time posting, seems like a great board. Anyway, I agree with the general consensus about Maxima UG line being one of the best. But, I'm surprised Maxima Chameleon didn't get a couple of mentions. While I use UG in ultra clear conditions, I prefer Chameleon becuase of it's superior abraison resistance and stiffness. It seems to take the abuse of using spoons and spinners a lot better than UG. Seems like I'm ready to respool after just a couple of uses when I'm spoon fishing with UG, but with chameleon I use it for a dozen or more outings and see little wear from line twist and overall wear. It also seems to turn flies over a lot better than UG with it's stiffness. Sometimes I think that people shy away from it becuase of it's dark color, but I don't think it tends to matter when it comes to salmon and steelhead.

This is not a new topic and, like in the past, alot of folks really like Maxima UG. After trying several types of Maxima (Crystal Ivory, Chameleon,& UG) and Trilene line, I have a different opinion. Maxima is great line for my Curado and ABU's but absolutely terrible on my spinning outfit. It's way too stiff. Sorta like trying to cast baling wire. But on my Curado it's wonderful. Very tough, just enough stretch, and unbeatable knot strength. Just don't put it on a spinning reel.

For my spinning reel, I agree with Salmon-tackler. Trilene Big Game is great stuff. It's inexpensive ($10 for 1/4lb spool ~ 1000 yards) so I change line every other time out. I use it in #10, #12, and #15. It's also an acceptable line on my Curado but Maxima is better for level wind reels.

Like to experiment with new lines all the time. Although I have been using Ug I prefer the D.A.M Tectan line for my salt water.
I have used it on the river too, and like the results.
The only problem is it is not practical for me to use because I have to order it all the time through Cabela's or head up to Canada. so I us UG because it is a good line and it is avaliable any where. If Tectan was avaliable in all sporting stores I think I would go to that line and nothing else.

I might have to try some of that maxima ug stuff. I have been a firm believer in izorline for about 2 years, and it have always been great line. I don't change my line that often (about every 5 or 6 trips). Would the ug be a good line for that, or would it wear out really quick?

My partner and I have been using Gamakatsu line with very satisfactory results. We use 14# for our Steelhead rigs, 25# for Salt Mooching and 30# for Salt Trolling.
We were looking at line diameter; 14# is the diameter of Maxima 12#, so we figured we could get more length of higher tensile strength on a given spool. We thought we'd give it a try for starters, and have no complaints so far.
We're impressed w/ diameter, abrasion resistance, & Stretch. We've had no problems w/ knot strength.
A tad more expensive, but worth it.
For what it's worth, my brother landed a 63.5 lb HOG on the Skeena last year using 25 lb Izor line. Even though it took him 2+ hrs, its still a good testimonial for the line. Next time maybe he'll learn to hookem in the mouth.

Nothin beats maxima cam. for castin but stick to some thing alittle limper for spinning
