I'm confused... was trolling out by hat island and Camano last weekend and saw a TON of bait schools on my fish finder (about 95 feet down)... but we didn't have a single bite the entire evening... i didn't even see hardly any humps on the screen either... (just only two humps the entire day)...

...what's up with that? anybody have any suggestions as to what was going on??

thanks!

Just because your sounder is marking schools of fish it does'nt necessarily mean they're herring, candlefish or anything else that salmon are actively feeding on. Last summer while fishing the Bubble I was marking huge schools of what I thought were baitfish and when I dropped my jig down into the schools I ended up snagging small True Cod. The whole bay was full of these small cod. I dont normally pay too much attention to the bait balls suspended off the bottom unless they are scattered, with larger fish intermingled. Or unless they are near the bottom Hope this helps.

Hey Rookie,
Keep your gear parked within 10 - 15 ft of the bottom even if you are seeing bait in the middle of the water column. Keep trying, you'll get em'!!!
Good luck and tighht lines, Jeff
