Lets go the opposite route of "Todd" & his is it just me? post. What are some of your best nicknames/slang. Example, fish club (for bonking hatchery fish only) = the priest. The pyramid anchor on the back of a drift boat = the hook. Your buddy coming back on a major hook-set with nothing to show for it = the air bite. Bring it on!

How about...
Wood Shampoo: applying the bonk to a brat with a chunk of stove wood.
Bumper Boats: Similar to bumper cars at the fair, only on the Hoh in March and April.
Yahoo: another term for "cracker"

I remembered another one:
When I lived in Santa Barbara and we used live sardines/anchovies for Calico Bass, when you missed a strike and lost your bait, we called it "farmin' 'em". I suppose that meant we were fattening them up for next time.
They also had wierd names for fish down there, the same fish we have here. They called rockfish "sugar bass". I think that was because they made really good bait for other fish, especially because they were mainly pretty small. At least they didn't call them sea bass like crackers do around here.
Some of the pier fishers called the leopard sharks "tiger sharks". Even if I didn't have a degree in marine bio., I think that's a pretty easy distinction to make, and not a mistake you want to make if you happen to surf in the South Pacific anywhere!
They called cabezon "lingcod", and also called lingcod "lingcod", but somehow never confused themselves over which was which. They did, however, confuse me.
They like to call dogfish "sand sharks", which is fine with me, as lots of folks around here call them that. However, they maintained that dogfish and sand sharks were two different things, and that sand sharks were preferable for catching and eating. I never saw them catch what they called a dogfish, but I saw many dogfish caught and called sand sharks, then taken home to eat.
Barracuda were called 'gators, which I like, but I think that names already taken for pike and muskies and gars, isn't it?
Todd

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Okay, fair's fair Kent How 'bout some more: "crackers" in guide language refers to ALL private traffic ... this is in fun now, so no nasty emails! bank maggots pukers = private boats on the salt farmers, farmed fish = losing fish through screw-ups home run = swinging too hard on a fish and busting it off good 'uns = all pre-spawn fish

I love the word "bonk" as in "Yeah hit a nice brat yesterday?" "Did you bonk him?" "Ofcourse" Bonk=Kill 'em So now that ReiterRat is a 'Definate Keeper', does that mean I can bonk him? ...not to be confused with 'boink' ------------------ Ryan S. Petzold aka Sparkey and/or Special

"Another hook please" = what I said to Bob all day on the "Duc". duckhunter Bass fishing= casting on the other side of the logs. [This message has been edited by duckhunter (edited 03-26-2001).]

Parker and I have our own fishing language in which some of it is of our own creation while the rest is borrowed from respected guides and other good fisherman. "The Hurt" - Pluggin' "Worm" - Eggs(thanks Robbo ) "Bugs" - Sandshrimp "Saukin' it to 'em" - Using my fist instead of the wood fish bonker (hatchery fish only...don't panic, guys) "Flat-Buried" - When the plug rod goes down and stays down "Tampons" - white dink floats "Spawners" - Any fish that Parker catches "Hoity Toities" - Nicely dressed flyfisherman with no clue "Neophytes" - Fisherman that are so clueless they don't even deserve cracker status "Pucker Factor" - Degree of difficulty given when navigating rapids
