Went down to Longview and fished between there and Wauna on Friday, 1/2 Saturday, and Sunday. On the river, I only saw five fish caught out of literally hundreds of boats. Four of those fish were on Sunday, out of a pack of about 52 boats. I did an informal poll of boats leaving the Willow Grove launch on Saturday afternoon, and counted seven fish in 34 boats. Not the numbers I had expected. Where are people catching fish? Is all the action upstream at Bonneville? Most of these guys had the equipment, too... I'd say %85 or more of the boats using the Willow Grove launch were jet sleds. Just asking. -N.

A couple of buddies and I took the sled fishing on the Columbia also, but we were lower in the river. We only had two hook-ups and one helacious slam that didn't get hooks. Most of the fish we saw were caught on Kwikfish and many did not seem to be wrapped (Binoculars of course!), although I wrapped mine with Herring. I landed a nice fish that was 15 plus pounds and had a clipped fin. My buddy landed one of about 12 pounds, but was promptly released. It seemed that most of the boats had some action and most of the action took place during the tidal shifts and it was best with the tide out-going. When that tide turned, the fishing turned on, and boy you should have seen the fish on the Lowrance.... Fishing was by no means hot, but persistence pays off, we were on the water at 6:30 am and finally got off the water at around 8:00 pm.....you know that the last fish hit about five minutes after I had said, "okay boys, five more minutes and we're outta here". As I was pulling in the rope on the sea anchor, I looked over and my friends rod was buckling over and the guys in the Hogline next to us were yelling, HEY FISH-ON! Well you guessed it we stayed another hour and a half, and no more hits. Had a great day in between rain showers, wind and sun. I won't be able to hit it again until the weekend after Easter, if it is still open that is.

Jeez, nice fish, Jenny! I posted this on the other thread, but figured I'd try again here. RT or anyone: Do you know when the usual peak of the Springer run is on the lower Columbia? I'm talking about the Cathalamet area. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Skook, Talking to the old timers who fished the area you are asking about...they claim that the peak is usually the second week of April. I was told the last time the river was open in that area in April was back in the late 70's. Not sure of the accuracy of that, but based upon what I've seen there in the last two weeks, it could be true.
