This paper is not all about baseball beer and fishin it is also about Milwaukee the beer capital of the United States smile

First question how many of you fisherman out there like to drink beer while fishin. Especialy after catchin a nice big cromedome?

Secone question is how many of you guys and girls out there drink beer while watchin a game weather at the park or on the couch?

And now for my essay now it might not relate to fishin much but any response I can work into my essay. Weather it regards to fishin or figure skating. this paper needs alot of work so any ideas would be nice thanks guys and girls.

Brew City USA
Beer one of America’s favorite drinks. Every were I go I see people ordering beer rather then coke, I have always wondered where the beer capital of the united states was but now I know its Milwaukee, but some people think that it has lost its foam and gone flat.

Back in the early1800’s four of the biggest American beer barons moved to Milwaukee, Baltz, Pabst, Schlitz, and Miller. In Milwaukee they all built their empires and to this day they can still be found in our local supermarkets and little corner quickie marts. Some people think that the city has lost some of it white bubbly foam because only one major brewery still resides in Milwaukee. But how many café’s have a beer especially made for them? So far I only know of one and that is the Coquette Café in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee has one gigantic brewery the Miller brewery and a smaller one the Lakefront Brewery, which is family, owned. Along with having two breweries the city has a mess of bar’s, pubs and cafés that server the famous “Old Milwaukee” and some home town specialties too. Like Gasthaus Zur Krone has a small selection of 300 different beers, which is far bigger, then the average, but these bars are not average because they reside in the brewery city of the USA.

Now there are sports and everyone knows that sports fans like to drink beer while they are watching the game (not all sports fans but most that are of age do). So what goes better then beer and baseball? The Milwaukee Brewers play in Miller stadium is that just a co-incidence or do you think they did that on purpose. A baseball team named after the people who make beer and a baseball park built by and named after a famous brewery that just happens to be located in the same city as the park I don’t think there is any co-incidence they did that on purpose because Milwaukee is the Brew city of the USA.

The city also has a Mansion, which was built in 1892 by Captain Frederick Pabst a beer baron, is located on Lake Michigan and has the beer rich history of all of Milwaukee’s breweries from best to worst. How many breweries have a mansion dedicated to their history? Not many this is the only one that I have been able to find.

Milwaukee is located on Lake Michigan where some of the best fishing can be found on the east side of the united states. Fisherman like to fish and drink. So you combined fishing and beer and you have some thing that can almost beat beer and baseball but not quiet. Picture this, an old man sitting in his boat at about the crack of dawn he has his coffee and then he hooks and lands his first fish of the day, but does he reach for his coffee to celebrate, no he goes for an ice cold beer.

Milwaukee has a rich history of breweries and just because a few of them have relocated does not mean that it has lost all of its foam, the past might have had more beer but the future has better beer. Next time you crack open a cold one think about where beer came from and then sit back relax and enjoy the day.

Good interesting piece Doug! And I will now think of where my beer came from. But I am more interested in where it is going laugh . Counter to what it may seem from some of my fishing stories I only have alcoholic beverages about 1 out of 3 fishing trips. The other 2/3 of the time I use heavy drugs ... not. Definitely kidding around. One thing I do when I take some beer out in the boat is start drinking it around mid-morning so as both lunch and a few hours after that my driving won't be affected - really important considering most of us are quite tired after getting up early and 'working' hard to catch fish all day. That's a bad combo for driving anytime! Never mix the two! I like Michelob.

I might be wrong about this but isn't it illegal to drink any alcohol while in a gas powered boat. I don't know if anyones ever got busted for a single beer but I always see commercials and adds talking about how the two don't go together.

Good point, and I think that's correct. That's one of the reason's it's the minority of the time I drink beer while out boating. However, when I'm offered a couple beers while sitting in the front of a motorless driftboat I do oblige occassionally. ... Be careful out there.

Beer! my second favorite past time, next to fishing of course.

Milwaukee maybe beer capitol USA but the northwest is BEER HEAVEN. laugh laugh

Feel free to use any of these quotes:

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, “It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.”

Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink,
Thy will be drunk
At home as I am in my tavern.
Give us this day our foamy head
And forgive us our spillages,
As we forgive those who spill against us,
And lead us not into incarceration
But deliver us from hang overs
For thine is the beer,
The bitter and the lager,
Forever and ever,
Barmen

Drink now in peace.

The center of the brewing universe is not in Milwaukie.........It is in my kitchen!!!!

from "goat scrotum porter" to "rasberry hefeweizen" I make it...I drink it....and I love it.

Any brewers on the board????

Another tip about drinking and fishing.. DON'T OWN A BOAT! Go with your buddies, drink all you want.

hooker,
I just started brewing in september. In fact I'm gonna bottle 5 gallons tonight.

Mike K,
I have two excellent IPA recipes. One is called liberty bay IPA, and the other is called American IPA. both over 7%. I also snow cap clone that is better than the real thing. drop me a line if you'ld like the recipes.

One of the best days fishing I've had was fishing for chums on a really nice day with a cooler of homebrew. fishing was slow but the beer was going fast. I've got to wonder what everyone around us was thinking as we were laughing absolutely hysericaly in our boat three sheet to the wind. laugh

American style IPA

9 lb light malt extract
2lb cara pils
2lb crystal 40L
1.5oz chinook hops 60 min.
1.25oz cascade hops 10 min.
1.25oz centennial hops 10 min.
.5oz cascade hops dry hop
.5oz centennial hops dry hop
wyeast 1056

add dry hops into secondary fermenter
let dry hop for 2 weeks

Liberty Bay IPA

Here's a recipe for the serious Hop Head. It's a small partial mash, with enough extract to hit a 1.066 OG. We use six ounces of Cascade and Columbus hops. That's a chunk of bittering and a whole lot of flavor.

7 lbs Light Malt Extract
2 lbs Light Dry Malt Extract
1 lb 2-Row Pale Malt
1 lb Crystal Malt 40L
1/2 lb Munich Malt
1/2 lb Victory Malt
1 oz Columbus Hops 15 HBUs (Boiling)
1 oz Cascade Hops 5 HBUs (Boiling)
1 oz Cascade Hops (30 min)
1 oz Cascade Hops (20 min)
1 oz Cascade Hops (10 min)
1/2 oz Columbus (5 min)
1/2 oz Columbus (1 min)
1 oz Columbus (dry hop)
Wyeast 1056 American Ale Yeast
1 1/4 cup Dry malt extract (bottling)

Add cracked 2-Row, Crystal, Munich, and Victory Malt to 3 qts of 170º water. The mash temp will drop to 150º. Hold that temp. for 1 hour. Sparge the grain with 6 more quarts of 170º water. You should collect about 2 gallons of wort. Add the Light Malt Extract and Light Dry Malt Extract then bring to a boil. Add 1 oz each of Columbus and Cascade Hops. Boil for 30 mins. Add 1 oz of Cascade Hops and boil for 10 mins. Add 1 oz of Cascade Hops and boil for 10 mins. Add 1 oz of Cascade Hops and boil for 5 mins. Add 1/2 oz of Columbus Hops and boil for 4 mins. Add 1/2 oz of Columbus Hops and boil for 1 min. Sparge the hops with cold water then add the wort to the fermenter with cold water to make 5 gals. Add the yeast when the temp reaches 70º. Aerate well. Ferment at 70º for 10 days or until fermentation slows. Rack to a secondary fermenter and add 1 oz of Columbus hops(in a hop bag). Let it age 2 weeks in secondary, then bottle or keg. For bottling, use 1 1/4 cup of dry malt extract boiled with 2 cups of water added in the bottling bucket.
