I guy that I work with and I were talking the other day about the lovely water these fish we love so dearly have to swim around in. He asked me if I have ever heard of any studies done about heavy metal levels in sturgeon. Can't say that I have! Does anyone know of any studies that have been done? Thanks people!!!!!!!!!

Hey Zaq, I did a scuba dive just below Bonneville above the fishing deadline and to my suprise the strugeon had on lead diving belts like I was wearing to help them stay on bottom. A couple 15 footers gave mine the eye so I beat it out of there! Before I left though I only remember hearing some rap; no heavy metal. rolleyes (sorry about that - it won't happen again - maybe laugh ) ...

Actually, that is a very interesting question because of so much mining runoff that still comes from upriver. They have cleaned it up quite a bit, but rivers such as Montana's Clark Fork R. still get some, I read somewhere. Kind of a moot point for the big ones that have been around for many years of polution. Heavy metal isn't the only concern I would think. If nobody comes up with the answer Zaq, try the ODFW for the info and let us know what you find out - we are eating some of these fish! Thanks. - Steve
