Anyone out there have a good weighing formula for coho?

There's a stuffed coho in our building that has to be really close to the State Record 23 pound 8 ounces.

(There's also a 28lb. steelhead taken off of the Quinault in the 60's, but that's not kosher or cool anymore.)

This is one toad of a coho on the wall. All I know about it is that it came out of the UW Fish Pond, probably sometime back in the 70's. This brute is just huge.

If you're ever over this way, stop by the new Fisheries Sciences Building (1122 NE Boat St), and track me down in room 258B. I'll give you the tour and show you the fishies. Dead and alive.

Parker,

Since coho and steelhead have similar body shapes, and proportions, it stands to reason that the length X girth squared, divided by 775 formula should be fairly accurate. Or at least get you in the ballpark smile

The coho is 38 inches long and has a girth of 22 inches.

Doing the math, that puts it at 23.73 pounds. Never was good at math, but I belive that is really close to 23 pounds 9 ounces.

Wow.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

parker,

I take it this is a buck silver? If so, they have a body a little more similar to a large lake trout or char. After browsing around, the formula generally used on those species is

Length x Girth x Girth /800

Rather than: Length x Girth x Girth/775 which is the formula used for steelhead.

Using the first method, it's 22.99 lbs.
Using the second method, it's 23.73 lbs. (or 23 lbs. 11.7 oz.)

You decide............ laugh
