Check the WDFW website fishing page under "tribal fishing". There is a complete schedule for coastal rivers. Looks like they put them in every Monday at 7am and pull them the next day by 7pm at the latest. The link is :

Tribal Schedule

Maybe someone could clean this up a bit as I am technologically challenged.

Hope this helps. Andy

I was at Mora Beach Thursday night on memorial weekend and they gill netted the Quilliute for 4 hours or so and took all the fish....sounds like they just do what they want to do...any comments??? There were tons of kings rolling that night before dark and then Friday through Monday I saw only 3 roll

They may have had an individual subsistance permit or some other right to net that we don't know about. Who knows? They could also have been bending the rules a bit. There is a "bad element" in every part of our society, and maybe the folks you saw were, maybe they weren't. Maybe you should have called the Quillute tribe and asked.

I'm sure that we have never seen a sport fisher dump trash, snag, be rude and inconsiderate, or in any way bend the rules. Don't let the actions of one person color your opinion of their entire group.

Get the fish you can, and until we can legislate some changes, deal with the rules as they are. I know a few fish cops, and they have no problem approaching either native or sports fishers to verify their rights to fish. When in doubt, call 'em out. Andy

smelt nets are just about the right size to put a serious hurt on the wild cutthroat stocks ...

I'm not sure what type of nets they were using, but they would let the net out on one side of the river...the net was attached to a bunch of floats and then they would drift down with their jet boats on the other side of the river for a few hundered yards then pull the net in
